“But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
Do you think you can walk in pride and be humble at the same time?
What does it mean to walk upright? My first response is that walking upright is what distinguishes man from the animals. However, according to scripture, walking uprightly is simply walking unafraid, with pride and acting humbly at the same time.
We are warned about the arrogance of pride in Proverbs, but when we walk with pride and in His light because we are proud of being a chosen child of God, God promises us that he will not withhold anything good from us: “Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor” (Proverbs 29:23).
Prayer: Dear God, help me to walk through life with pride and humbleness, knowing that I can live unafraid because I am your chosen child and you love me. I love you, too. Amen.
Reflection: Pride can describe two different types of behavior – secure humbleness and self-centered arrogance. Which type of pride do you display?.
