{ Day 3 }.

I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. —Isaiah 45:5-6

Your ideas about God—who He is and what He is like—come naturally through your relationships with earthly authority figures. When these are distorted, so are your ideas about God.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Father God, I know that there are things about my earthly relationships that hinder me from understanding who You are. I don’t want my ideas about You to be distorted. I commit to doing all I can to discover exactly what You are like by studying Your Word and by letting Your Spirit teach me more about You.

To achieve long-term renewal and freedom, we must
change our ideas about who God is.

{ Day 2 }.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32

In our verse for today, Jesus tells us that we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. What truths must we know to be free? First and most important, who is God? What is He like? What kind of personality does He have?

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Lord, I want to be set free by Your truth. I want to become more like You. I want to exhibit the characteristics that I see in Your life. There are characteristics that I recognize in myself that are not like You. Help me to overcome these flaws as Your truth exposes each one and sets me free.

The way to our emotions
is through our minds.

{ Day 1 }.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16

No one can come face-to-face with what God is like and ever be the same. Seeing the truth about His personality touches the depths of our emotions, which leads us to spiritual wholeness and maturity.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Lord, there is nothing I want more than to experience a growing, ever more intimate relationship with You. Let me see You as You are so that I may be transformed in my own life and walk with You. Amen.

Beholding the glory of who He is and
what He has done renews our minds,
strengthens us, and transforms us.

{ Day 364 }.

Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. —James 1:16-18

Give proper liberty and create sufficient opportunities for the Spirit to manifest Himself in the settings that are specifically intended to welcome renewal ministry and its attending activity. Of course, God may Himself break into any gathering with His manifest presence without human mediation. Model and teach proper restraints, and seek to be sensitive to the specific situation and context. What does love look like or require in this particular setting? Seek to submit to those in authority for the sake of peace and unity. Mistakes in discernment are bound to happen in the midst of renewal when the heightened fear of both missing God and being deceived are present. Encourage people to appeal to leaders in private if they disagree with the direction the leaders have given or are giving to the body.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Father, in all my work and service, in every part of my life, cause me to discern accurately and fully what You are doing and what You want me to reveal to others. Don’t allow me to “miss” Your revelation or to cause another to be deceived.

Mistakes in discernment are bound to happen

fear of both missing God and
being deceived are present.

{ Day 363 }.

He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-4

Take the posture of being learners rather than experts in the ministry of the Spirit. There really aren’t that many of our generation who have gone before us in some of these things. We must continue to become like little children before our heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We must be more confident in their ability to teach and lead than in our ability to learn and follow. Fortunately, their commitment to us is stronger than ours is to them. And this reality is truly the source of our strength. Be gracious, kind, and patient with differences in perspectives within the community of believers and various streams of the body of Christ. If God is the true source of a move of the Holy Spirit, then He is well able to act independently of our judgments and criticisms to defend His honor. He will raise up creditable witnesses and advocates.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Father, I have so much to learn about You. If I spend each waking day of my life in Your presence, I will still have so much more to learn about Your work, Your love, and Your purposes for my life. Make me a learner, dear Father.

We don’t have to prove to anyone that
something is of God if it really is!

{ Day 362 }.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. 2 Timothy 3:1-5

Self-control. We encourage people to “dial down,” both emotionally and physically, as they go to pray for others. If you are being outwardly and manifestly influenced at the moment and involved in an uncontrollable experience with the Spirit, then seek to stay in a receiving mode and wait until you can calm down to get into a giving mode. We must recognize that the danger exists of unwittingly manipulating others by putting a wrong pressure on them to respond to us if we violate this principle. There are exceptions to this general rule. One is if a person specifically asks you to pray for them while you are in such a state. Another could be if the other person is a friend and you know that they would welcome such an experience. And there may be others.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Father, in my intercession for others, help me to “dial down” as I enter Your presence and to have a calm, receiving spirit that allows Your Spirit to direct my prayers for others.

We encourage people to “dial down,” both emotionally
and physically, as they go to pray for others.

{ Day 361 }.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God‘s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-5

Gentleness (meekness). We need to approach praying for others with a fresh awareness that we don’t have the answers for them but that we know the One who does. This keeps us from presumption and platitudes. Our movements, both physical and verbal, need to be gentle rather than abrupt or harsh. If we can help set them at ease by knowing that they are safe in our presence, then they will be able to receive more easily from the Lord.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Give me a spirit of gentleness, dear Father. Pour Your oil of gentleness over my spirit, and cause it to flow carefully and consistently into the lives of others through a gentle spirit.

Our movements, both physical and verbal, need
to be gentle rather than abrupt or harsh.

{ Day 360 }.

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God‘s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. —Romans 12:11-13

Faithfulness. We must become involved in personal prayer ministry knowing that it will call for perseverance on our part. We will often have to pray more than one time for the same people with the same needs. We mustn’t become intimidated by apparent failure. We also need to remember the truth that if we are faithful in little, then God will give us more with which to work. The anointing of the Spirit grows stronger upon us as we put into practice what we have learned. Commit yourself to praying for hundreds of people for the rest of your life and see what God will do.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Above all things, dear Father, I want to be counted faithful to You. Cause me to be faithful in my intercession before You for the souls of others.

Commit yourself to praying for hundreds of
people for the rest of your life and
see what God will do.

{ Day 358 }.

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. —Ephesians 2:6-7

Kindness. We will often be praying for people whose lives have been wrecked by sin. Many haven’t been taught social skills, and they have unlovely characteristics about them. Many have embraced wrong teachings and even are oppressed by demons. We must be braced to gracefully absorb some of their immaturity and deal kindly with their deception. We must overcome evil with good and be kind to those who are unkind to us. This honors the Lord and gives them the best chance to get His help.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Make me a kind person, Spirit. Let me express the kindness of our loving heavenly Father. Help me to overcome the evil around and in me with the response of spiritual kindness.

We must overcome evil with good and
be kind to those who are unkind to us.

{ Day 357 }.

The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. —Isaiah 32:17

Patience. We need to slow down and take our time in praying for others. The Holy Spirit doesn’t like to be pushed—He wants to do the leading. Usually, He takes His time in showing His power. In quietness of soul we are able to better receive the impressions of the Spirit upon our spirits, minds, emotions, and bodies. “Soaking” prayer is often very necessary to remove stubborn strongholds of the evil one.

{ PRAYER STARTER }

Spirit, how much I need Your patience. Cause me to understand that as I confidently and quietly wait for You to work in my life, You will transform me and give me the strength of Your presence.

In quietness of soul we are able to better receive
the impressions of the Spirit upon our spirits,
minds, emotions, and bodies.
