The Power of Fasting?.

There is a lot of misunderstanding today about fasting. Some people think it is related to dieting and the body. Others think its purpose is to impress God with the intensity of their desire. Others hope their self-denial will speed up the Lord’s answer. None of these are true.

Fasting is a spiritual work in which we temporarily eliminate distractions so that we can give our undivided attention to our heavenly Father. It is a time of spiritual preparation through exclusion of earthly interruptions. As we abstain, other things begin to lose their sense of importance; in their place is a heightened awareness of God’s presence and His priorities for our lives. Our agenda is replaced by His as we connect with Him in deeper intimacy and receive all that He has to tell us. It can be one of the most powerful experiences of the Christian life.

Fasting can be carried out in several ways: going without food, eliminating activities, or forgoing sleep in order to seek Him. You can also set aside the intimate sexual relationship between husband and wife for a period of time. The intent is always to be in the Lord’s presence without disturbances so that His voice can be heard.

Have you avoided fasting because it appears too hard or too confusing? Think instead of the joy you will experience from a deeper communion with your loving God, and step out in faith. Giving your unhampered attention to the Lord for a period of time is one of the wisest things you can do.

What the Bible Says about Fasting (1 of 4).

In our time remaining … I want to talk to you about what the Bible says about fasting. What does the Bible say about fasting. Now .. I can hear somebody say, “Oh .. I’ve fasted before and lost 5 lbs.” Is weight loss the reason for fasting?

It may be true that life begins at forty, but everything else starts to wear out .. fall out .. or spread out. And fasting may help your waistline … but there is more to fasting than losing weight. What does the Bible say about fasting?

The word “fast” in the OT is the Hebrew word sum .. now after fasting on Tuesday that really makes since to me that the Hebrew word is sum .. for I caught myself thinking … “I wish I had sum food!”

The word “fast” in the NT in the Greek word neestia .. which like the Hebrew word sum referred to abstaining from food.

I had a phone call Tuesday from one of our members and he was in a discussion with another member about fasting. He asked me if there was a certain amount of time we’re to fast. From sun-up to sun-down? … was it for one day? … was it for one meal? Just how long are we to fast? Those men were searching for the truth .. weren’t they?

I had a lady stop me in the hall on Tuesday night and told me she had been fasting and praying throughout the day and it was about 8:30 p.m. and asked, “When is all right for me to eat?” Well .. what does the Bible teach about fasting?

In our time tonight …I want us to see 6 truths about Fasting. They all start with the letter “P” … I think of these as the 6 sweet “P’s” of fasting:

(1) THE PERIOD FOR FASTING?

When a person fasts … just how long is the fast to last? Well .. the Bible tells us that fasts varied in length.
-one day fast. (2 Sam 3.35)

“And when all the people came to persuade David to eat food while it was still day, David took an oath, saying, “God do to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else till the sun goes down.”
-one night fast. (Dan 6.18)
“Now the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting.”
-three day fast. (Esther 4.16)

“Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise.”
-seven day fast. (1 Sam 31.13)

The Power of Fasting.

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give; yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. 1 Corinthians 7:5

Fasting brings you through the outer court of your body, through the inner court of your soul and into the Holy of Holies of your spirit, where God resides.

When Jesus cast out the demon, He said, “This kind cometh out not but by prayer and fasting,” but He didn’t first go pray and fast. He immediately cast the demon out, because He was living a fasted lifestyle.

You cannot wait until the devil comes knocking on your door to pull out your Bible verses and your ten keys to deliverance.

Let us be lean, mean fighting machines in the Holy Ghost, ever ready to face the devil’s onslaughts. That is what putting on the whole armor of God is about (Ephesians 6:11). Live a fasted life and be ready for the devil whenever and wherever he knocks!

In fasting, we surrender the desires of our flesh and our spirit man takes charge of our lives. Fasting creates within us an attitude for focusing entirely on Jesus and putting aside self-interests and attention.

Jesus, I seek Your work in my life through prayer and fasting. Teach me when I need to pray and fast for a mighty work of Your Spirit. Amen.

When Should We Fast?.

… and humbled myself with fasting—Psalm 35:13

You might be thinking, I’m willing to fast, but when do I do it? I would therefore like to suggest five occasions on which fasting is justifiable.

I think the first of those would be when the burden we are under is so great that we do not really have a desire for food—for this may be a hint from God that we should fast. David experienced a time of great mourning when God smote the son born to him as a result of his adultery with Bathsheba (2 Sam. 12:15-16).

The second occasion that justifies fasting is when we are about to embark on a very great task for God or have to make an important decision. At the beginning of His ministry, after His baptism, Jesus fasted (Matt. 4:2). Maybe you need to know God’s will and don’t know what to do. It is justifiable to fast because you need wisdom for something in the future.

A third reason is if we feel that God is hiding His face. Perhaps we are in a rut or have known better days spiritually. Perhaps God is not as real as we have known Him to be, and we are not sure whether we have grieved Him or whether He has just chosen to hide His face for reasons we can’t understand. Perhaps God is hiding His face from us in order to drive us to our knees to seek Him.

The fourth occasion is when we have experienced delay in the answers to our prayers. In the Old Testament in particular we have accounts of situations where God did not step in as it had been hoped He would, and as a result the people fasted.

The fifth occasion that justifies fasting is when we feel the need of unusual power that we don’t have, such as in the case of demon possession in Matthew 17, which was too big for the disciples to handle.

Fasting is a way of ensuring that we are completely dependent upon God and open to Him. It seeks spiritual emptiness and cleansing, and it enables us to hear God speaking.

Why Should Christians Fast?.

Fasting isn’t a practice many Christians do on a regular basis.

But here’s the deal. Prayer coupled with fasting is often a great source of power for the believer! Fasting strengthens our prayers. So it really is something every follower of Christ should consider including as a regular part of their lives.

I know so many believers today who are slaves to their appetite for food and other physical pleasures. Fasting helps us deny those things in our lives that seek to enslave us. Fasting is also great because it helps us defeat our enemies, those spiritual forces all around us that seek to destroy our lives and our testimony for Christ.

Why else is fasting commended in the Scripture? Because it helps us discern the will of God. And, it destroys strongholds!

And it isn’t just non-believers who have major strongholds in their lives. Many believers do too. And I’m talking about satanic, demonic strongholds that get rooted in our lives and riveted in our souls.

Now, you may be thinking, “That may be true for some people, but not me. There aren’t any strongholds like that in my life.”

Well, that could very well be true. But have you thought about the stronghold of fear? Or the stronghold of lust? Or the stronghold of anger?

Think about your relationships. What one bad habit of yours causes the most damage in those relationships? If you can think of a behavior pattern or habit that’s had a history of hurting the people you love, that one thing could very well be a stronghold that Satan is using to trip you up!

You’ve heard me say it before that we need to replace the bad things in our lives with the good things. And one of those good things is fasting.

So why not pray about whether or not you could spend some time this week fasting? Sure, you might have to skip a meal or two. But if it will help you deny yourself, defeat your enemies, discern the will of God, and destroy strongholds, why wouldn’t you give fasting a shot?

” ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” (Two Days Fasting And Prayer Warfare).

” If God gives you grace to fast and pray, wonderful but please, if you can´t fast for one reason or the other, don´t let that limit your blessings, you are welcome to join us to pray, God bless you all in Jesus Name. Amen, Amen and Amen.
New International Version (©1984)
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.
Everlasting Father, i look up to heavens and i decree that through the power of divine revelation and obedience, endow us with an unquenchable and unstoppable powers to pray like never before in the history of christians and about prayers. Romans 3:23  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Brethrens, i will ask us to ask for God´s forgiveness over our lives, in every ways and manners that we have sinned against Him and let us plead for His mercy and let us pray that none of our sins will hinder our prayers from been answered in Jesus Name. Amen, Amen and Amen.
Brethrens, i urge you all, to refuse to be happy with the devil or situations has kept you, but stand up by faith and begin to provoke heavens by your prayers that in the reigns of the spirit, powers will change hands in your good and favour.
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.
Brethrens cry out to God of the Isrealites in the same way and manner that Jabez did in his days and pray that as the same God answered Jabez and for the fact that He is a God of a continous process, that He will equally answer you even far more than He answered Jabez. Brethrens, pray that Your prayers will spark a global revival and win souls to the throne of the Master.
Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for 400 years.” (Genesis 15:13).
Brethrens pray that in every areas of your lives that it is taking you more time to sojourn, that God will be with you, lead, direct and empower you till the very end in Jesus Name. Amen.
Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void (Galatians 3:16–17).
Brethrens, pray that every promises  God has made to your forefathers that didn´t come to pass in their life times will come to stay, manifest and be established in your own life time in Jesus Name. Amen.
Isaiah chapter 60 verse 1, Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. light Isa 9:2, Isa 42:7, Matt 4:16, Luke 2:32, Eph 5:14
Brethrens, Finally pray that God´s light will come heavily upon you like never before, illuiminate every of your parts, prepare and equip you, to begin to reclaim your healing and deliverance, to retake your blessings, favours, promotion, upliftments and cause you to break into high grounds according to the Will of God concerning your lives, to repossess every of your stolen territories and remain in charge and in authority over such territories till the Son of Man returns to take His Own and pray that Your relationship and fellowship with the Lord will get better, better and more better in Jesus Name. Amen, Amen and Amen.
I decree, declear and proclaim that as we all obey and begin to raise our voices in agreement to engage heaven, may the Host of heavens, endorse, approve and interceed on our behalf in front of the Master and at the risen of this spiritual engagement, many shall see, receive and experience signs, wonders, miracles and testimonies but don´t fail to share it with others and in your church, for your testimony can spark a fire of prayer into somebody´s life and through your testimony, they will receive theirs in Jesus Marvelous Name, we pray. Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen and Amen.
