We are Ready to Rescue Nigeria From “Clueless Leaders,” Says APC.

Ayo Balogun, Lagos

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians that the party is ready, willing and determined to make all the necessary sacrifices to reverse the prevailing gloomy situation in the country and bring about the much-needed change for the better in the interest of the long-suffering citizens.

In a New Year message issued in Lagos by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Nigerians should go into the New Year with an unyielding commitment to be part of ongoing efforts to set the country on the path of growth and development, rather than get into a state of funk on the basis of the cumulative mis-governance of the past 14 years by the PDP-led Federal Government.

”While wishing all Nigerians a great 2014, we hereby solicit their unalloyed support for our efforts to reshape the country’s political landscape, shake off the heavy yoke imposed on them by their selfish, self-serving and clueless leaders and make the country a source of pride not only to its citizens but to all black people in the world,” it said.

APC said the first step in what will be a tough but final battle to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of rapacious leaders will be to bring the citizenry on board the train of change that is barrelling through the country, and to ensure that elections in the country are free, fair and credible.

”As we wrote in the preamble to our manifesto, ‘democracy, to be stable and meaningful, must be anchored on the principle that government derives its powers from the consent of the governed….This means that governments are instituted on the basis of free, fair and credible elections, and are maintained through responsiveness to public opinion.

”’In addition, the exercise of political authority is rooted in the rule of law. APC believes in the doctrine of social contract between the leaders and the led; which means that the public office holder is a trustee of the people and that power must be used in the interest of the people rather than in the interest of the public office holder’,” the party said.

It said in order to ensure that as many Nigerians as possible are brought aboard the APC train of change, the party would kick-start its membership registration drive early in the year, targeting in particular the youth who are indispensable in any effort to bring about change.

”We ask all those who are yearning for genuine change to seize the moment and embrace the engine of change, which the APC represents! Our compatriots who have lost faith in our dear country because of inefficient and corrupt leadership can count on us, because we represent committed, transparent and focused leadership,” APC said.

The party pledged to halt the country’s drift towards a failed state with a conscious plan for a post-oil economy in Nigeria, details of which would be outlined in the weeks and months ahead; and to make the welfare and security of the citizenry, which is the raison d’etre of any government, its top priority.

APC said that in order to extricate Nigeria  from the dire straits in which it has been plunged by the successive PDP governments, the party has decided to make as its priority the War Against Corruption; Food security; Accelerated Power Supply; Integrated Transport Network; Free Education; Devolution of Power; Accelerated Economic Growth and Affordable Health Care.

”We know skeptics will sneer at these and deride them as mere sloganeering. After all, Nigerians have been taken for a ride for the past 14 years by those who have mistaken transmogrification for transformation, and those who have relentless pursued power for the sake of power, rather than to use it to harness the country’s abundant human resources.

”But most things look impossible until they have been achieved, and the impressive record of performance in the states under our control, from Kano to Imo states and from Lagos to Edo, testifies to our ability, determination and willingness to make things happen for the benefit of our people,” the party said.

No Cause for Alarm on Defection from PDP -Tukur.

…Says Decampee Members’ll Soon Return

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has allayed fear over the defection of some members of the party into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tukur said with the measures being put in place in the PDP along with President Goodluck Jonathan, those who defected from the PDP would willingly return into the party at the nick of time.

He said the PDP has, indeed, been welcoming more members into its fold from across the federation compared to the number of those who had defected.

The PDP Chairman said going by the undercurrents within the political circles, PDP would swell with influx of new members next year, as according to him, many members from the opposition camp had already signified resolve to join the PDP.

Tukur made this known in London Wednesday in a chat with a team of Nigerian Professionals based in Europe, led by Dr Edwin Olabamiro who paid him a visit.

The professionals had sought audience with the PDP Chairman on their interest to return to Nigeria with a view to offering their expertise in diverse fields for the growth of the country.

The PDP Chairman said he was pleased with the resolve by Nigerians in the Diaspora to henceforth put Nigeria at the center of their considerations, as he expressed gladness on their desire to start looking homewards.

Tukur told the professionals who are mostly on medical, information technology and Engineering lines that the PDP has always been in pursuit of reforms to make it stronger as the ruling party. He said a stronger PDP would always produce a stronger national leadership, and hence, a more vibrant economy.

He disclosed that PDP, in the most recent time, has been undergoing a process of rejuvenation, which he noted many had interpreted as crises. According to him, the ruling party would emerge stronger, more virile and fully prepared to surpass its attainments at the end of the wrangling among members.

Said he, “The PDP remains a party with the largest spread and tested strength to win elections any day any time. I thank you all for this visit, while I urge our members all in Nigeria not to be brow beaten by images of political delusion that confront them every day from different quarters.

“The PDP is at home to contain all forms of harassment by the opposition, either vaunted or intended. If it is a game of number in any election, you can always count that the PDP would have it greater.

“The good thing is that if 5 people move out of PDP into the other party, even by a dint of propaganda, the Party takes in more than 500 at a time, as replacement. The electorate in Nigeria trust the PDP more than many people are aware.

“As the Chairman of PDP, let me say that we may not be having it smooth in the party at the moment, The Party and Mr President are not relenting on holding consultations with the aggrieved members.

“At the end of it all, PDP would be the better and more prepared to do greater exploits. Our members should, therefore, savour the period of the yuletide and not allow any issue to keep them distracted and depressed”.

Pray For Selfless Leaders Like Mandela, Okorocha Urges Nigerians.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, and Chairman Progressive Governors Forum, has urged Nigerians to pray for God’s intervention in the raising of selfless National leaders as late Nelson Mandela of South Africa.

Nigeria according to him, Nigeria is in dare need of National leaders that will be celebrated by other world leaders like the late South African leader, Nelson Mandela.

Okorocha, who stated this in his new year massage contained in a statement issued in Owerri by his Senior Special Assistant on media, Sam Onwuemeodo, said not until Nigeria enthrones leaders like the late Mandela, its political and economic woes would continue.

He added, “until leaders that would be respected and celebrated by leaders of other nations begin to emerge in the country, the nation won’t move as fast as expected in terms of development and growth.

The Governor, further charge Nigerians both the leaders and led to be committed to the wordings of the National Anthem and National Pledge, noting that living up to the letters of both would arouse national consciousness in every patriotic Nigerian.

He regretted that fifty-three years after Nigeria gained her independence, ethnic consciousness has been allowed to over-ride national consciousness and political power sought on the basis of which area one comes from, or which religion one practices, instead of emphasising on those factors that would make the unity of the country stronger.

The Governor therefore, appealed to Nigerians especially the leaders to ensure that all hands are on deck towards building a united nation, adding that the All Progressive Congress [APC], would provide the needed roadmap to achieve national greatness.

He posited that Nigeria as a nation, is over due to move to the next level of advancement, saying with the APC as the torchbearer, we will get to the promised land.

The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum also hinted that the APC is a party with deep love for democratic ideals and would like to wrestle power from the ruling peoples Democratic party, PDP, through the ballot box and not keen in the impeachment of anybody.

APC, he noted, is mindful of the fact that” power goes with dignity when the person holding it has the mandate of the masses to do so”.

He also assured the people of Imo State on the commitment of his administration in ensuring that the area remains on the fast lane of transformation and development.

The governor assured that the people-oriented policies of the administration would continue to be pursued with vigor, just as he urged all Imo indigenes both at home and in Diaspora to join hands with his government in its effort to make the state a place every Imo citizen, would be proud of, in all ramifications.

APC to assume House leadership soon.

There are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress, APC, may, on resumption from recess of the House of Representatives on January 13, 2014, assume the leadership of the House from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This, however, may not affect the offices of the speaker and deputy speaker respectively.

The impending development which Vanguard scooped yesterday, is followed by the defection of 37 members of the PDP to APC late last month.
Speculations had been rife since December 2013, shortly before the House went on Christmas break, that the change would have occurred.

A member of the House and PDP decampee who spoke to Vanguard on conditions of anonymity, said the first quarter of the new year would herald changes that would affect the leadership structure of the House.

He said: “Within the House, 2014 will be a remarkable year for Nigeria, remarkable in the sense that, of course, the trend which began in late 2013 in terms of power shift will continue and what that means is that APC should be able to get the requisite 181 members which gives it complete majority. When that happens chances are that the leadership will shift from PDP to APC.

“APC has between 172 to 174 members in the House. And what we just need, I think is between 8 and 9 new members in terms of those crossing from PDP to APC. And that will be the APC requisite that will shape the House and points the future direction of the House.

“But what is certain is that if everything does not change, the leadership, the majority leader will need to relinquish that position because at the end of the day, a party cannot be in the minority and still hold the position of the Majority Leader.”

2014 will determine Nigeria’s future —Adeboye •Presidential ticket may tear APC apart —T. B. Joshua.

pastor-adeboye 02

GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said the New Year, 2014, will determine the future of Nigeria.

Adeboye gave the prediction during the crossover service, held at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, LagosIbadan Expressway, Ogun State.

Adeboye, speaking on the New Year, said contrary to insinuations in some quarters that 2015 will determine the fate of the nation, “whatever will happen to Nigeria in 2015 will be determined this year, not 2015.”

Disclosing to worshippers that he was permitted only to speak out two of the prophecies God had given him concerning Nigeria, he

said the events heralding the New Year in the political landscape might not necessarily determine how the year would end.

“The equations at the beginning of this year will be different from the equations at the end of the year. Therefore, don’t jump into conclusions,” he warned.

On the international scene, Pastor Adeboye admonished the world to pray against storms, as well as monumental fire outbreaks.

He, however, said more than last year, there would be major breakthroughs in medicine and science.

“The Lord told me that there will be quite a few narrow escape from tragedies for some people. Also, divine promises of more than a decade ago will begin to find fulfilment.

“Some individuals should expect a prominent divine visitation that will radically alter the cause of their lives, while some others will experience the first taste of real dominion in the new year,” he said.

He enjoined members of the church worldwide to participate in the 100 days prayer and fasting programme commencing today, Thursday, saying similar event, which took place 18 years ago, had left fortunes of the church and individuals bewildering.

Adeboye said God told him that “the destinies of many people will be determined in 2014. It is a very powerful year and we must get the best out of it.”

Presidential tussle may tear APC apart –T. B. Joshua
General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet Temitope Joshua, has revealed that unless members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) engage in fervent prayers, the party, this year, might face a serious political problem as a result of presidential tussle, which might tear it apart.

This came as he predicted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would take steps to unite its warring members, adding that the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, might quit as chairman of the party.

Making the prediction on Tuesday, during the candle light session to herald 2014 at SCOAN, Prophet Joshua noted that some members of APC were not sincere members.

“Unless members of APC pray well, this set of members may ignite crisis in the party, because of their selfish agenda,” he said.

According to him, the ruling party, which had been engulfed in crisis for sometime now, would employ many steps to salvage it from collapse, though he did not elaborate on this.

He also predicted that the popularity of many politicians of great repute would wane, stressing that their voices would no longer be relevant or respected.

While disclosing that he saw a cloud working against the conduct of the 2015 general election, he called on Nigerians to pray to avert unforseen circumstances that might affect the election.

In his prediction for members of SCOAN, he said he was convinced that “if members have faith in God, nothing will change their destinies.”

APC And Its Web Of Deceit By Ogunjimi James Taiwo.

By Ogunjimi James Taiwo

I always tell people that when you define some terms, always know that for every term that exists, there’s a separate Nigerian definition. It’s in Nigeria that you fight inflation by producing 5000 notes. It’s in Nigeria that you want to reduce child mortality rate and you’re not building hospitals. It’s in Nigeria that you want to reduce crime on the streets and you’re taking people’s means of livelihood. It’s in Nigeria that you want your schools to be among top schools in the world and you’re not funding education.

In the same vein, when people talk about APC and its attempt to revamp Nigeria’s democracy, I can only laugh. APC? They want to evolve our democracy? The same people label themselves progressives yet they wine and dine with agents of backwardness. Do they even know what it means? Abegiiii…

You can only call APC progressive if progressive means bringing together strange bedfellows. APC can only be progressive if progressive means accepting every tom, dick and harry all in an attempt to build strength. I say APC can only be progressive if progressive means inviting enemies of the masses to join up and lead them.

If anybody thinks APC is taking us anywhere good, I say dream on. The only place APC will take Nigerians is to push more people down the poverty line. Using LASU as case-study, the only place APC is taking Nigerians is a place where only the rich can afford to send their children to school. Using Lagos state as example, the only place APC is taking Nigerians is a place where you will all be told to go back to your villages and live in the forest if you can’t meet up with their pace? Using 2011 Presidential election (where Tinubu betrayed Ribadu and sold South-west to Jonathan) as case study, the only place APC is taking Nigerians is a place where leaders betray their followers when juicy deals come their way. Using Senator Yerima (and the overwhelming support of the defunct CPC senators for child marriage) as case-study, the only place APC is taking us is a place where we marry off our daughters from the cradle. Using Alli Ndume as case-study, the only place APC is taking us is a place where sponsors of terrorist organisations are granted bail even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Other countries may have passed through this stage and now enjoy ‘democracy’ today, but Nigeria won’t. The mistake people who refer to this make is that they forget that those countries differed on policies; their disagreements weren’t about who could loot the most, their wranglings weren’t about taking in every enemy of the masses in the name of building strength. Their disagreements bordered on policies, their disagreements bordered on agenda and its workability. That is why they scaled through. The only thing Nigerians will be left with after ignorantly experimenting with APC is disappointment and a taste of defeat at having been used to achieve selfish aims.

A party that accepts everybody and brings in people who destroyed their own party, a party that brings in sworn enemies of the masses is a party that has nothing good to offer.

My only prayer for Nigerians is that we will awake on time and free ourselves from the web of deceit that APC has weaved before we mortgage our future and that of our children and before we sacrifice our survival on the altar of power play and greed.

The way forward? We begin to plan towards a people’s revolution. We begin to put platforms in place. We begin to educate the masses. We begin a vigorous campaign to rid the ignorant of their ignorance. We begin a reeducation drive aimed at changing the orientation of the masses. A recycling of politicians won’t take us anywhere; only a total overturn of the current system of governance can bring a lasting change to Nigeria, reclaim the nation from those who have made it their birthright and give Nigerians back their nation.

Down with failed politicians! Down with parties of deceit! Onward to a people’s revolution!

All hope is not lost, Bola Tinubu tells Nigerians.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country’s future.

He said the progressives are poised to transform it into a fertile land of prosperity, when they take over power in 2015.

In his New Year message, the former Lagos State governor said Nigeria is destined to be better than it is today.

Tinubu said: “If put in the hands of enlightened progressive leaders, this nation can become a fertile land of prosperity, lawfullness, peace and dignity for us all.

“This is why we formed the APC, a vehicle to generate and accelerate the process of change towards the most beneficial end for

the greatest number of our people.

“We may not be perfect, but we are dedicated to the wellbeing of something far greater and more important than ourselves.

“Beginning this New Year, the APC will show the people the vast difference between it and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). We shall demonstrate our commitment to democracy by exercising internal democracy and transparency in our party deliberations.

“We shall communicate with the people at the grassroots as well as at the national level. You will see and hear from APC members and leaders at the local, state and national levels.

“We will highlight the ideological and substantive policy differences between the progressive us and the elitist them. Where the PDP has imposed trickle-down economics reminiscent of 1980’s Reagan –Thatcher-IMF road show, we seek an economy of genuine and broadly-shared growth, where the labouring wage earner and small business person benefit proportionally to the powerful financier and big corporate power

“2014 will be the year of an even greater change foretold, for it shall set the stage for year after. May, 2015, will be the fateful year when we affirm into governance the change Nigeria needs.”
