A&E Lifts ‘Duck Dynasty’ Suspension.

By Cathy Burke

Buckling under a storm of controversy over the suspension of “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, the A&E network Friday reinstated the outspoken star of the mega-hit series.

The bearded 67-year-old patriarch of the Louisiana family was yanked from the hit show Dec. 18 after he gave an interview to GQ magazine in which he aired his religious objections to homosexuality, likening it to “bestiality.”

The interview set off howls of protests from activist groups including GLAAD, the gay media watch organization, but Robertson’s abrupt suspension triggered an equally fierce backlash from “Duck Dynasty” fans — and conservative politicians such as Sarah Palin — who pointed out Robertson’s beliefs were consistent with the Bible and shared by many Americans.

An Alabama lawmaker even announced he’d introduce a resolution in support of the beleaguered reality star.

On Friday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal praised the decision to re-instate Robertson, according to The Daily Caller.

“I am glad to hear that the folks at A&E came to their senses and recognized that tolerance of religious views is more important than political correctness,” he said in a statement. “Today is a good day for the freedoms of speech and religious liberty.”

But the Rev. Jesse Jackson said Friday that despite A&E Network‘s decision to end the suspension of Phil Robertson for his insensitive remarks about gays and African Americans, the “Duck Dynasty” star needs to be “more repentant and contrite.”

“Mr. Robertson’s language was hurtful and painful to many people … [and] he’s been unrepentant,” Jackson told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“When people make mistakes, and people do make mistakes, you should be repentant and contrite and then seek forgiveness.”

In its statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news of the suspension’s lifting, A&E said “a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to… principals” prompted its quick reaction to the Robertson interview in GQ.

“While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the ‘coarse language’ he used and the misinterpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article,” the statement said.

“He also made it clear he would ‘never incite or encourage hate.'”

Though A&E reiterated that it didn’t agree with Robertson’s views, it conceded itslucrative hit “is not a show about one man’s views.

“It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love,” the network said, calling the family a group that comes “together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness” and saying those are values the network also feels “strongly about.”

The network said it had talks with Robertson’s family as well as with “numerous advocacy groups” before lifting its suspension.

“A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family,” it declared.

It also said it’ll “use this moment to launch a national public service campaign … promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty.”

Since Robertson didn’t miss any filming during his suspension, the so-caled hiatus had zero effect on the upcoming fifth season, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Allen West: ‘Duck Dynasty’ Suspension May Violate Civil Rights.

A&E may have violated the civil rights of “Duck Dynasty‘s” Phil Robertson when it suspended him for making anti-gay remarks in a magazine interview, former Rep. Allen West of Florida says.

‘We cannot start censoring people like this,” West told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“As far as A&E . . . it’s their business. I don’t know what’s in the contract, but if they suspended someone for their religious beliefs, that’s a violation of the Civil Rights Act.”

Last week, Robertson, 67, star of A&E’s smash reality show, was suspended for criticizing the homosexual lifestyle in GQ magazine, comparing it to bestiality.

He quoted passages from the Bible to back up his beliefs.

“GLAAD [founded as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation] and other organizations such as them, they want freedom from any dissenting views,” West said. “The majority that is out there are in concert with Phil.

Ralph Reed: Boycott A&E for ‘Anti-Christian Bigotry’.

By Todd Beamon

Conservative political activist Ralph Reed on Thursday called on the 800,000 members of the Faith & Freedom Coalition to boycott the A&E Network until “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson is reinstated to the program.

“Phil Robertson’s suspension is a brazen act of anti-Christian bigotry,” Reed, the coalition’s chairman, said in a statement.

Robertson was placed on indefinite suspension by the cable network on Wednesday after he compared homosexuality to having sex with animals in a published magazine interview.

But Robertson has since received broad support from conservatives and Republican politicians ranging from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

In the interview, Robertson “never represented his views and values as being those of A&E or the producers of ‘Duck Dynasty,’ ” Reed said. “He was specifically asked about his views on sin and God’s best plan for humanity — and he answered honestly, forthrightly, even directly.

“His comments were based on his faith in God, not animus directed at gays or others who might be different from him,” Reed added.

“To suspend Robertson under these circumstances is sanctioning him for holding Christian faith and beliefs — and it is a sign of a broader intolerance, bigotry, and discrimination against Christians that has no place in America.”

The coalition’s boycott efforts will also include telephone calls, email blasts, mailings, and text messages. Member are urged to write A&E executives to protest the suspension.

Reed said that he, too, wrote network officials over the matter.

“Sadly, A&E is in danger of destroying one of the most-valuable franchises in the television industry and offending 40 million Americans in the process,” Reed said. “If its management is smart, they will move swiftly to repair the damage before it is too late.”

After Gay Activist Attack, Thousands Support ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star With IStandWithPhil.com Petition.

Phil Robertson
Faith Driven Consumer has launched the IStandWithPhil.com petition drive, which calls for A&E to immediately reinstate Phil Robertson to its No. 1 hit show, ‘Duck Dynasty.’

Faith Driven Consumer has launched the IStandWithPhil.com petition drive, which calls for A&E to immediately reinstate Phil Robertson to its No. 1 hit show, Duck Dynasty.

The network suspended Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty because he expressed disagreement with gays in a GQ interview. In the January issue, he called homosexuality a sin and used the words bestiality and promiscuity in the same breath.

IStandWithPhil.com is garnering strong support from Faith Driven Consumers with its call for tolerance, fairness and respect for differing viewpoints in America’s rainbow of diversity. By Thursday, the petition had more than 10,000 signatures.

The petition states, Mr. Robertson’s comments in GQ Magazine are simply reflective of a biblical view of sexuality, marriage, and family—a view that has stood the test of time for thousands of years and continues to be held by the majority of Americans and today’s world as a whole.

“Many members of the LGBT community may not agree with this view, but the notion that a free-thinking American should be discriminated against simply for expressing a perspective that is in conflict with another is patently un-American and flies in the face of true tolerance and civility.”

Chris Stone, founder of Faith Driven Consumer, explains, “Simply put, Phil Robertson is being censored and punished for quoting the Bible, and A&E’s treatment of him is punitive and highly discriminatory. Everyday people will not stand for this; they know bullying and violation of religious freedom when they see it. A&E’s actions are censoring faith-driven consumers and eliminating them from an entertainment choice that they have overwhelmingly supported.

IStandWithPhil.com is leading the charge in the call for fairness and equality as we defend the fundamental American right to free speech and tradition of tolerance.”

The IStandWithPhil.com online petition drive cites the A&E network’s “intolerant, discriminatory and punitive treatment” of the Duck Dynasty star, noting that “A&E’s position, which in your own words is ‘championing’ the gay and lesbian community … excludes the views of Faith Driven Consumers and effectively censors a legitimate viewpoint held by the majority of Americans.”

IStandWithPhil.com calls for respect for the millions of viewers of the show and demands that the network immediately reinstate Mr. Robertson and “formally apologize to him, his family, and the millions of viewers who tune in every week, stand by him, and share his worldview.”

‘Duck Dynasty’ Fans Rally Behind Exiled Robertson With #BringPhilBack.

Phil Robertson’s suspension from “Duck Dynasty” has led to widespread backlash toward A&E from his fans, after the network announced he would be indefinitely suspended following his remarks about homosexuality.

Robertson’s fans used the hashtags #BringPhilBack and #StandWithPhil in tweets to A&E, voicing their opinions.

The tweets, compiled by Twitchy.com, are just a small sampling of the outrage by some after Robertson’s dismissal on Wednesday, stemming from an interview the 67-year-old gave to GQ magazine in which he referred to homosexuality and bestiality in the same thought.

Robertson’s granddaughter, Sadie Robertson, who appears on the show, also subtlety weighed in on the controversy on Wednesday.

A&E has yet to react to the online protests and appears to be standing by its decision to put Robertson on an indefinite hiatus.

In his interview with GQ, Robertson’s anti-gay comments included a paraphrasing of biblical passages that opposed homosexual behavior.

“[You] start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” Robertson told GQ.

“It seems like, to me a woman would be more desirable [than a man]. … That’s just me,” Robertson added in the interview. “She’s got more to offer,” he continued. “I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

The comments were met with immediate criticism from the gay rights organization GLAAD, a spokesperson for which said that Robertson’s remarks were not reflective of how “true Christians” view gays, considering “Phil and his family claim to be Christian.”

Robertson subsequently issued a statement through A&E, in which he said he “would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me,” however his “mission … is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.”

Palin: Duck Dynasty Firing Endangers Free Speech.

Image: Palin: Duck Dynasty Firing Endangers Free Speech

By Sandy Fitzgerald

“Intolerants” are “hatin'” on “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says, complaining that his suspension from his family’s reality show is an attack on all Americans.

“Free speech is an endangered species,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page Wednesday beneath a picture of herself posing with the A&E Network‘s reality stars. “Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.”

On Wednesday, the cable network suspended Robertson indefinitely from its top-ranked show after he compared homosexuality with bestiality in an interview with GQ Magazine.

Urgent: Do You Approve Or Disapprove of President Obama’s Job Performance? Vote Now in Urgent Poll

Robertson told the magazine — in anatomical terms — that being with a woman “would be more desirable” for a man. “She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

He went on to say that “neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

A&E on Wednesday said that the network is “extremely disappointed” in Robertson’s comments, emphasizing that its series Duck Dynasty do not reflect his opinions.

Palin and the Duck Dynasty family, including Robertson, have gotten close in recent weeks. They hosted the one-time vice-presidential nominee in Louisiana to help her promote her bestseller “Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas,”reports Breitbart,  and she has been quoted as being “happy, happy, happy” that her children believe the Duck Dynasty family is “cooler” than she is.

Meanwhile, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention Wednesday called Robertson’s suspension “ridiculous” while calling for “cultural conversation” instead of intimidation through restricting free speech.

Suggesting that people who hold to what every branch of the Christian faith has held to for 2,000 years is somehow bigoted or hateful is not productive for speech,” Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, said.

“Silencing views one doesn’t agree with, rather than engaging them, is hardly open-minded.”

Further, Moore pointed out that A&E hired Robertson to be “comedic and sometimes shockingly homespun.” He admitted he found Robertson’s anatomical comments “ill-advised and crude, but that doesn’t seem to be where the controversy lies.”

But instead of suspending Robertson, Moore said on his blog, “why not engage one another, and have the debates in a civil fashion, without attempting to silence one another? Let’s have the sort of cultural conversation that allows us to seek to persuade each other, not to seek to silence one another with intimidation. That’s what real diversity is all about.”
