Jonathan’s deal prompting minister’s sack exposed.

The recent sack of four ministers may just be part of a deal  President Goodluck Jonathan has entered into in his re-election project,  Daily Sun can now reveal.
Jonathan had, on Wednesday, fired Princess Stella Oduah, Minister of  Aviation; Elder Godsday Orubebe, Minister of Niger Delta; Caleb  Olubolade, Minister of Police Affairs and Yerima Ngama, Minister of  State for Finance. This came barely one month after the president  removed the service chiefs and appointed new ones.
Daily Sun gathered that the sack of the four ministers is part of the trade-off Jonathan has made, in his quest to seek re-election.
Competent sources revealed that some elements in South-West had  specifically asked Jonathan to sack Oduah and Mike Oghiadomhe, the  former chief of staff to the president, if he wants to get the zone’s  support in 2015.
It was gathered that the South-West has also requested that  replacements for Oduah and Oghiadomhe should come from South-West, as a  proof that Jonathan is not marginalising the zone.
Opposition, however, has greeted the latter request, as some elements  in the Presidency are insisting that whichever minister is sacked  should be replaced by somebody from the zone.
Sources also revealed that the sack of the service chiefs was due to  the request some politicians from the North made, for them to support  Jonathan’s second term bid.
It was gathered that the northern elements specifically asked for  either the post of Chief of Army Staff or Chief of Defence Staff, with  the president opting for the latter.
In appointing the Chief of Defence Staff, Jonathan changed the  sequence, as the post rotates among the Army, Navy and Air Force. While  the Navy and the air force produced the last two Chief of Defence Staff,  the Army was expected to take its turn now.
To please the North, as the zone requested, Jonathan appointed Alex  Badeh from the Air Force, making it possible for two air men to serve as  CDS within a space of six years.
Daily Sun gathered that as the 2015 general elections gets close,  Jonathan will make more concessions to political blocks he thinks would  be useful in his second term bid.
Sources revealed that the president would, between now and June, make  his intention to seek a second term known. However, this will come  after he would have pacified some politicians and zones critical to his  second term ambition.
Meanwhile, Oduah has received encomiums from her kith and kin in Anambra State, who described her as a heroine.
They also commended Jonathan for giving Oduah an opportunity to give uncommon developmental stride in the aviation industry.
Speaking on Oduah, leader of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA)  in Anambra, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, noted that the former minister has made  the Igbo proud, in the course of discharging her duty as aviation  minister.
Pointing to the transformation of the nation’s airports he said: “I  have been in this country and used the airports so often that what I see  as transformation in our airports was unbelievable to me that a woman  could make such a difference.
“Oduah to me is a heroine; she brought ingenuity in the aviation  industry and has done marvelously well, and she has really done us  proud.”
Also speaking, the Anambra State House Committee Chairman on  Information, Mr. Poly Onyeka thanked the President for giving the Igbo  the chance to prove themselves in service to their nation, stressing  that Oduah brought originality and creativity in aviation industry that  one would have thought she could be allowed to do more.
He said: “I thought Oduah could have been allowed to continue to discharge her responsibility, but it turned other way.”
The lawmaker commended the former minister for making aviation the most improved sector in the country.
The Anambra Ohanaeze Chairman, Dr. Chris Elumunoh, said that the  president acted in the best interest of the nation and enjoys total  rights on appointment or firing of any appointee.
Noting that Oduah initiated good projects in the industry, he urged  Jonathan to appoint someone who would continue from the stride of Oduah.

Three persons have been reportedly killed and 18 houses burnt over the struggle for the village headship of Ofodua-Adun community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.Besides, over 30 persons were said to have sustained injuries with their property destroyed just as farm lands and crops worth hundreds of thousands of naira were destroyed.Daily Sun checks revealed that the two communities of Iva Egbe and Iva Egba of Ofodua Adun had been locked in a succession battle in the last three decades leading to alleged incessant attacks on Iva Egbe by Iva Egba natives. While the Iva Egbe paternal royal family among the other four traditional families claimed to be vested with the exclusive right to produce the village head, the Iva Egba and three communities of Iva Enang, Iva Obeten and Iva Awonokwe , were insisting on rotation of the Ofodua traditional political organization. This development had pitched the warring communities against each other as well as sowing seed of discord and disharmony between the hitherto two communities. It was learnt that the battle over who would take over the traditional stool got to a climax penultimate month when the Iva Egba, Iva Enang, Iva Obeten and Iva Awonokwe communities allegedly invaded the farm lands of the Iva Egbe family members, destroyed their crops and attacked the people physically.

The invaders later moved from the farm land to the village and attacked Egbe family members killing three in the process and pulled down over 18 houses just as over 30 persons were wounded. In a petition addressed to the state police commissioner and made available to Daily Sun, Iva Egbe traditional leaders decried the incessant attacks on their families because they had refused to let go their traditional inheritance. In the petition dated December 6, 2013 and signed by Ovarr Ignatius Egba, Felix Abeng and Patrick Abeng Egbe, the community said the latest attack was an ethnic cleansing sort of and wanted government to intervene in the crisis.Speaking on the crisis, one of the youth leaders, Sunday Attan, said: “We have suffered in the last three years in the hands of our brothers from Iva Egba because of village head. Look at me now; I have lost everything I laboured for years to build. What are we struggling for and for how much?”When Daily Sun visited the state police command at Diamond Hill, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey, was not around for comment, but an officer in his office, said: “It is true that Ofodua community in Obubra local government has reported to us and the command is still investigating.

Police raid MASSOB office in Ebonyi.

MASSOB-04

Police in Ebonyi State have raided the office of Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and carted away some items in the office.

It was gathered that mobile policemen in three Hilux vans stormed the regional office of MASSOB at No. 9, Hatchery Road in Abakaliki at about noon at the weekend. No arrest was made because there was nobody in the office at the time of the raid.

The Abakaliki Regional Administrator of MASSOB, Mr. Osita Obiajulu, told Daily Sun that policemen invaded their office when they were not in the office and allegedly made away with N170, 000 they kept in the table locker, and removed their signpost and flag. He said the mobile policemen came looking for mebers of the MOSSOB and when they realized that their targets were not around they broke into the office through the window.
“We are calling on President Goodluck Jonathan and inspector general of police to intervene in the matter and urge them to return our items they took from our office including money. We are a peaceful group, we have not attacked or harassed anybody since we started this movement. We have constitutional right to belong to any association, we don’t have gun, we don’t have knife but every time, police keep arresting, intimidating and molesting our members. Police want to push us to the wall, we are peaceful and we will remain peaceful but police should stop harassing MASSOB members,” he stated.
But in a swift reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a deputy superintendent (DSP), who confirmed the incident, denied collection of money from the office of MASSOB by the police as alleged by the MASSOB members.Igbo stated that members of MASSOB ran away when police came to arrest them for hoisting Biafran flag, an act of treason, which according to him, was a threat to the law abiding citizens of the state.
However, the Director of Information of MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu, condemned the attack on the office of MASSOB in Abakaliki, saying the activities, operations and existence for the past 14 years were purely on non-violence and does not amount to any threat to the society.

GUO escapes assassination in Onitsha.

chief-godwin-okeke

Barely 48 hours after operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) killed six suspected kidnappers in Ihiala Council Area of Anambra State, a business magnate and transporter, Chief Godwin Okeke (GUO motors) escaped death by the whiskers yesterday when gunmen suspected to be hired assassins attacked his car.

The attack occurred barely one month after the owner of the Young Shall Grow Motors, Chief Vincent Obianodo escaped suspected assasins’s bullets in Festac Area of Lagos.

Okeke escaped death miraculously within his residence at Government Reserved Area (GRA), Onitsha, while he was returning from work at about 6.45 pm when the gunmen trailed his car to the gate of his home.

Though the business magnate was not hurt, it was gathered that after he came in, one of the drivers in his convoy went out with a black Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with Reg. No ME70AAA, and the assailants trailed him and opened fire on the car.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Okeke said he had come back about 10 minutes earlier and sent his driver on an errand with the car and on his way back, gunmen operating in a Toyota Siena car trailed him to his gate and opened fire on the vehicle.

His words: “I came back yesterday about 10 minutes earlier and I sent my driver to go and buy something. Shortly after that, we began to hear terrifying gunshots in front of the gate.

“It was when the assailants trailed the car, thinking that I was inside; they first opened fire at the windscreen, directing it at the front seat where they thought a security man was sitting.

“They shattered the windscreen, shot again at the driver and the bullets miraculously missed his forehead and just scratched his head and the bullets also hit his hand.”

“They also shattered the tyres of the vehicle and riddled the whole vehicle with over 60 bullets. The operation was a very brief one because it lasted for about five minutes.

“The assailants came purposely to eliminate me because within the last few months, I have been receiving threats from various criminal gangs, ordering me to leave Onitsha and Anambra State completely.

“But I told them that nobody can force me out of Onitsha or Anambra State. They probably thought I was inside the car because when they forced the door open, they were asking where is Oga?, before they left.”
