Oliver North: Obama is ‘Jimmy Carter on Steroids’.

Oliver North, calling President Barack Obama “Jimmy Carter on steroids,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin was “handed” Ukraine because Eastern Europe was left without leadership.

“If you could have imagined that someone is happy that Obama is president, it has to be Jimmy Carter because he is no longer the worst president in our history,” the former Reagan administration official told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on his show Wednesday, reports The Washington Free Beacon.

Story continues below the video.

But North does not advocate sending American troops to the Middle East or to settle the protests in Ukraine, where fierce clashes between police and protesters — some including gunfire — shattered a brief truce in Ukraine’s besieged capital Thursday, killing at least 19 people.

The latest deaths came in a new eruption of violence just hours after the country’s embattled President Viktor Yanukoyvch and the opposition leaders demanding his resignation called for a truce and negotiations to try to resolve Ukraine’s political crisis.

The decades-long battle is raging over the nation’s identity, where loyalties are divided between Russia and the West.

North said Wednesday that the lack of American credibility in Ukraine, as well as in the Middle East, indicates a “total failure of leadership” by Obama.

“Proof that the old axiom ‘into any vacuum a leader will eventually come,’ Putin has been handed this by what is essentially Jimmy Carter on steroids,” North told Hannity.

Putin is “literally taking Obama to the cleaners … by that I mean, from Syria, Iran, Egypt, the Middle East, Ukraine, on every level,” Hannity said. “And earlier, Poland and the Czech Republic. Putin literally is taking over in areas where Russia was — and the former Soviet Union were long gone.”

North said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shares the blame for the problems, but Obama has “left us bereft of leadership in the part of the world where we desperately need to have it.”

North insisted he is “the last person in the world” who would advocate sending American troops to help stop the Ukraine protests, and civil wars in Kiev, Syria, and Egypt.

“But it would have been nice to have had the credibility, of being at least respected by adversaries or admired by our allies,” North aid. “And we have neither as a consequence of [Obama’s] total failure of leadership.”

McCain: Jimmy Carter’s Failure ‘Pales in Comparison’ to Obama’s.

The Obama administration’s dearth of leadership has surpassed the failure of Jimmy Carter’s presidency and is helping al-Qaida gain footholds around the globe, laying the foundation for extremist Muslim terror groups to take up residence on U.S. soil, Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain said Tuesday on a Phoenix radio show.

“If you don’t care about Syria, my dear listeners, if you don’t care about Syria, it’s becoming a regional conflict,” he said while a guest on The Mike Broomhead Show.

“It’s spread to Lebanon. It’s spread to Turkey. It’s spread to Jordan. It is spreading throughout the region, and sooner or later it will affect the United States of America if you allow a place to become a base for al-Qaida.”

McCain fielded listeners’ questions and offered his take on everything from the Super Bowl to Syria. He slammed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for failing to take responsibility for the deaths of a United States ambassador and three others in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012, the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 people.

McCain railed against Obama, Clinton and Secretary of State John Kerry, who he criticized for negotiating with Russia while that nation supports Syria with arms during the civil war there.

“Eleven thousand people have been tortured to death and killed and beaten and murdered in the custody of [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad,” McCain said, referring to Assad as “a monster” who instructs his soldiers to “rape, torture and murder.”

McCain directed most of his ire at Obama and Clinton. McCain vowed to launch a thorough investigation of the Benghazi incident if the GOP wins control of the Senate in the midterm elections this fall.

“I will be chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and we will not quit until we get the testimony of those survivors, those brave Americans that fought,” he promised.

The senator lauded New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for swiftly acting on the bridge-closing scandal and immediately firing top level aides involved. Hillary Clinton, McCain chided, should learn something from Christie’s accountability.

“What the hell is going on when our secretary of state is not held responsible for the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, nor has anyone ever been held responsible for the deaths of four Americans?” he railed. “There’s a real double standard. Chris Christie held people responsible for what was obviously an abuse of power. Hillary Clinton has never taken responsibility even though the intelligence committee, Republican Party report, mentioned her specifically.”

Obama’s leadership is so deficient that Jimmy Carter’s epic failure as president “pales in comparison,” McCain says.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” he said. “I thought Jimmy Carter was bad.”

McCain said it’s unfathomable that Obama complains about not being able to accomplish anything because of the gridlock in Washington.

“He’s the president and he’s talking like he’s a bystander, an observer.”

Gallup: Americans Rank Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton as Most Admired.

Americans named President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the world’s most admired living man and woman in 2013, according to a Gallup poll released on Monday.

Obama topped the annual list for the sixth consecutive year, a typical ranking for a sitting U.S. president, the polling organization said.

But the percentage of those surveyed who choose him as the most admired man fell to 16 percent this year, down from 30 percent in 2012.

The president’s job approval rating has dropped during a year marked by a botched healthcare rollout and stalled legislative initiatives at the start of his second term.

Clinton earned the top spot among most admired women for the 12th consecutive year and 18th time overall, more than any other woman in the poll’s history.

Fifteen percent of Americans surveyed gave the former first lady and U.S. senator the highest ranking, down from 21 percent who named her as the most admired woman last year, the poll showed.

Gallup said its data came from a poll of 1,031 adults between Dec. 5 and 8, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Other men named to the list included former U.S. presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter; Pope Francis and the Reverend Billy Graham; actor and director Clint Eastwood; Microsoft Corp co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates; U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and former Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

The women who finished behind Hillary Clinton included talk show host Oprah Winfrey, first lady Michelle Obama, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and actress Angelina Jolie.

Also on the list were Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager shot in the head by the Taliban for demanding education for girls; German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

Brzezinski: Hillary May Have Been Focused on 2016 as Sec. of State.

Image: Brzezinski: Hillary May Have Been Focused on 2016 as Sec. of State

By Wanda Carruthers

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may have been too focused on a potential run for president in 2016 to have effectively negotiated the recent peace deal with Iran or other matters, former National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski suggested Thursday.

“You can’t help but wonder, was she more cautious because she thought, would she have been comfortable negotiating the Iran deal going into 2016?” Brzezinski said on MSNBC‘s “Morning Joe.”

“My point is, [if] she’s being cautious because she’s thinking of 2016, then she’s thinking about the wrong things while being secretary of state,” the former adviser to President Jimmy Carter added.

Secretary of State John Kerry looks “more comfortable in his own skin right now” and is doing a “fantastic job,” Brzezinski continued.

He emphasized, however, that he thought Clinton was “terrific” in the position. The difference between the two, he said, was that each had different agendas.

“He focuses on strategic issues … She had a global agenda. She had a futuristic agenda, human rights, gender issues, global climate, et cetera,” Brzezinski said.

Dick Morris: Boehner Eats His Young With Attacks on Conservatives.

Image: Dick Morris: Boehner Eats His Young With Attacks on Conservatives

House Speaker John Boehner would not be House Speaker John Boehner if it were not for the tea party and the other conservative groups he now criticizes. He says that they “lack all credibility” and accuses them of “using our members [Congressmen] and the American people for their own goals.”

Asked about the criticism leveled at the budget deal by conservative groups, he said “Are you kidding me? I don’t care what they do.”

His comments immediately drew admiring praise from Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who said his comments were “a breath of fresh air.”

Urgent: Do You Approve Or Disapprove of President Obama’s Job Performance? Vote Now in Urgent Poll

Has the world turned upside down? If it were not for these groups — the Tea Party Patriots, Heritage Action for America or others — the Republicans would have lost the elections of 2010 and he never would have been Speaker.

The grass- and cyber-roots enthusiasm of these conservative groups animate the Republican Party in the same way that groups like Occupy Wall Street and Moveon.org provide a shot in the arm for their party.

Without their hard work, outreach, enthusiasm and donations, the Republican Party would never have won in 2010 and won’t win in the future. And House Speaker John Boehner better realize it. If he doesn’t, perhaps his members will and will reacquaint him with reality.

Without the tea party, the Republican Party would be an inarticulate, me-too party without ideas or energy.

The Republican Party has always represented a fusion of two broad groups: those who are driven by ideology and those who grew up in geographic areas that are traditionally Republican and joined the party because it was the obvious way to enter politics.

Call them the Nixon Republicans, these folks live in suburbs or small towns and represent the equivalent of the urban big city machines that spawn and nurture Democrats.

But this party could not get elected. It would not have defeated Jimmy Carter in 1980 or elected Ronald Reagan. It would not have been the vehicle for the Gingrich Revolution of 1994, nor would it have taken the House in 2010.

It required a Reagan, a Newt Gingrich, a Ted Cruz, a Paul Ryan, a Mike Huckabee, or the like to animate it, fill it with ideas and carry it to victory.

For Boehner to cast aside these party enthusiasts and conservative workhorses is shortsighted and ungrateful in the extreme.

The tea party types are amateurs. They are small businesspeople, retired military, doctors and so forth that are professionals in their occupations but amateurs in politics. We need to be patient with their learning curve. They learned a lesson in October when the government shutdown backfired. And they won’t make that mistake again. Indeed, their basic acceptance of the Ryan-Murray deal indicates precisely that growth of perspective and maturity.

In this light, the Speaker’s comments are outrageous and cast real doubt on his ability to lead the House in the future.

Obama, Bush, and Hillary Traveled Together to South Africa.

By Courtney Coren

President Barack Obama, former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton all boarded Air Force One together and traveled 16 hours to South Africa to attend Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.

Representing the political past, present and, possibly, future, the three took part in a tradition of American leaders and ex-presidents bonding together in flight, The New York Times reports.

White House aides on board said that Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, Bush and former first lady Laura Bush and Clinton met together in the conference room at times early on in the flight.

“There have been very good conversations in that room,” said Jay Carney, White House press secretary.

Former President Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea, were traveling separately from a conference they were attending in Rio de Janeiro, and former President Jimmy Carter made his own travel arrangements to South Africa. Former President George Bush did not attend.

If bonds were made between the nation’s leaders and political foes, it wouldn’t be the first time a long flight has served such a purpose. The first President Bush and President Clinton reportedly became friends when the two former presidents traveled together to Asia following the 2005 tsunami.

Former President Gerald Ford and Carter created a similar bond in 1981 when they endured a long flight to attend the funeral of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

Stop Comparing Nelson Mandela to Jesus, British Journalist Says.

One of Britain’s best-known journalists, Dominic Lawson, has taken the media to task for comparing Nelson Mandela to Jesus. (sagoodnews.co.za, Onderwijsgek/Wikimedia Commons)

Few would deny Nelson Mandela’s greatness, but one of Britain’s best-known journalists, Dominic Lawson, has taken the media to task for comparing South Africa’s first black president to Jesus.

Writing on the eve of the departure of world leaders to Johannesburg to attend a memorial service for Mandela, who died last week, Lawson wrote in theDaily Mail: “He was a giant but how absurd for the BBC to compare Mandela to Christ.”

Lawson singled out BBC presenter Evan Davis, who told listeners on a radio program Saturday that Mandela should be ranked alongside Jesus in “the pantheon of virtue.”

The BBC radio program included former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who emphatically dismissed the notion of Mandela being on par with the founder of Christianity.

But Davis isn’t the only journalist making such comparisons. The political editor of The Telegraph, Peter Obornewrote in an article: “There are very few human beings who can be compared to Jesus Christ. Nelson Mandela is one.”

The article went on: “This is because he was a spiritual leader as much as a statesman. His colossal moral strength enabled him to embark on new and unimaginable forms of action. He could lead through the strength of example alone.”

In his rebuke of such sentiments, Lawson wrote, “Political history should also warn us never to confuse the public and private man. They are very different—and Mandela was a spectacular example of this disjunction.”

Mandela, Lawson pointed out, had many human failings, especially in his personal life.

The British press has been publishing numerous letters to the editor calling on commentators to stop turning Nelson Mandela into something he wasn’t.

Mandela died on Thursday at the age of 95.
