Bolton: Hillary’s Benghazi ‘Regret’ Remark Just Canned Politics.

Former U.S. Ambassador John Bolton says Hillary Clinton’s remark that the Benghazi attack was her “biggest regret” as secretary of state was a “focus-group-tested, polled response.”

“The fact here is that those deaths could have been avoided,” Bolton told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“The Obama-Clinton administration was . . . unwilling or unable to acknowledge that, in fact, the terrorist threat had grown under Obama worldwide.

“Their campaign claim [was] that al-Qaida was on the run, General Motors is alive, and Osama bin Laden’s dead. The fact is – and Benghazi demonstrates it – the terrorist threat was real and was growing,” Bolton said Monday.

Bolton said Obama and Clinton’s unwillingness to acknowledge what was actually happening in Libya “for well over a year” before the Sept. 11, 2012, attack led to that tragedy.

He said Clinton’s “biggest regret” comment was “a tried-and-true, focus-group-tested, polled response . . . They may get away with it, but they shouldn’t.”

Bolton, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former U.N. ambassador, said he is alarmed by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson’s remark that it is a matter of national security to give people who are in the country illegally a pathway to citizenship.

“There is no way that you can say that anybody has earned the right to be a citizen unless they have followed our laws and lived here the prescribed amount of time, done what they’re supposed to do,” he said.

“If you just happened to get here and that earns you the right to be a citizen, then we don’t have citizenship anymore,” Bolton said.

“We might as well just forget about the borders entirely, and honestly, that is what motivates some people in the Obama administration and some of their supporters.”

Bolton: Hillary Would Be Worse Than Obama.

John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush, believes Hillary Clinton would be worse than Barack Obama as president because she is smarter and more effective.

During an appearance on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt’s show Tuesday,  Bolton said he agreed with former defense secretary Robert Gates that Vice President Joe Biden has been wrong on basically every single foreign policy decision made by the Obama administration.

When Hewitt asked whether he thought Biden or Hillary Clinton would make a worse president, Bolton responded, “I think Hillary Clinton would be a worse president, because she’s smarter and more effective than Biden, and would be smarter and more effective than Obama.”

Bolton continued, “And I view her policies, she and her husband were a year ahead of me in law school. I’ve known them for a long time. And back in law school, she was very radical. Her appearance as a moderate these past ten years, I think, is due to the sophisticated political advice of Bill.”

“But I think where her heart is was Hillarycare in 1993-94, the ancestor of Obamacare. And that would be the direction of a Clinton administration,” he added.

Currently a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, Bolton also discussed his new committee, BoltonPac, established to support congressional candidates in the midterm elections who support a strong national security policy.

“Our way of life here at home depends on a strong American position internationally, and [leaders] who are willing to stand up for those positions. I think under Obama, national security has fallen off the radar screen of political issues,” he said.

Bolton: Syria Peace Talks ‘Doomed to Failure’.

The international peace talks in Switzerland to discuss a resolve in Syria’s civil war are “doomed to failure,” claimed former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton on Fox News on Wednesday.

The talks got off to a rocky start Wednesday, as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry argued a solution for Syria’s civil war must include President Bashar al-Assad stepping down from power, according to CBS News. The talks are an attempt to address the three-year civil war in Syria between rebel forces and the regime of President Assad that has claimed as many as 130,000 lives.

“The notion that these powers were willing to talk about easing Assad out has never been accurate. And yet, that has formed the basis of the Obama administration’s policy,” he said.
Bolton said Russia needed Syria because it was the location of their “only naval base outside the territory of Russia.” He maintained part of the problem was that the Obama administration based their policy of the “illusion” the U.S. and Russia were in agreement on a solution for Syria.

“I think, in fact, you can make a case that the administration’s policy on Syria has been based on illusions for three straight years — the most important of which, right now, is the illusion that the United States and Russia shared a common interest in a peaceful transition of power away from the Assad regime.

“That has never been Russia’s position,” Bolton explained.

Bolton: Failure to Avenge Benghazi Gives Wrong Message to Terrorists.

The United States’ failure to retaliate for the Benghazi scandal is giving terrorists a message that they can attack American institutions with impunity, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton said on Fox News’ Happening Now segment.

“The failure of the administration eight months after the attack either to retaliate, to avenge the killing, to exact retribution, to make it clear to the terrorists you can’t do this and get away with it, is much more serious,” he said. “It tells terrorists, you can attack Americans with impunity, and that’s very dangerous.”

Bolton said that arguing over whether witnesses should testify in public is a “sideshow,” and the report released by the Accountability Review Board is unimpressive due to its limitations.

“I don’t think the ARB tells us that much because its mandate was specifically limited to look for responsibility within the state department,” he said.

The report fails to answer questions that still linger eight months after the attack on the consulate in Libya in Sept. 2012, killing Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

“Why did we have a facility in Benghazi at all, particularly one that wasn’t up to state department standards? And why were repeated requests for security enhancements denied beforehand? That’s a policy question,” he said.

Bolton claimed the administration wanted a post in Benghazi to “show things were going great there.”
