The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, over the weekend, launched new Biafra motorcycle plate number in Enugu.

MASSOB leader, Chief Raph Uwazurike, who performed the official launching in Nsukka called on Ndigbo to see the new Biafra plate number as their identity and as one of the criteria for the realization of freedom.

Uwazuruike, represented by Chief Larry Odimma, Aba Regional Administrator of MASSOB, enjoined members not to be afraid of purchasing the plate number.

“I am here on the mandate of our leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike to launch this plate number, which is aimed at identifying Biafrans and forestalling criminal activities among people who hide under our name to perpetrate evil”, he said.

According to Odimma, the plate number would be sold to people with unquestionable character.

He said, “the national leadership of MASSOB applauds the freedom being enjoyed here in Enugu State unlike what we witness in places like Aba, Ontisha and Umuahia, where our members are constantly harassed by security agents”.

He sued for continuity of peace and harmony in the conduct of MASSOB activities in the state

“We urge you to continue in our vision of non- violence and non-arms carrying as we march towards the take off of Biafra government”, he added.

In his remark, the Regional Administrator of MASSOB in Nsukka, Mr. Kenneth Okwudili said the region expects everyone who shares in the dream of MASSOB to comply and get the plate number

“We expect every true and honest Igbo man with motorcycle to come forward and buy the plate number; this is our identity as Biafrans and we have to embrace it”, he stated.

He further noted that since the creation of Nsukka into a region in 2010, they had managed and sustained the struggle of MASSOB, adding that the launching of the plate number was part of their contribution to the sustenance and struggle for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra.
“MASSOB members will continue to partner and support the ideas of the Joshua of our time, Chief Dr. Ralph Uwazuruike in his course of maintaining non violence in actualizing Biafra”, he assured.

DailyPost learnt that the MASSOB plate number costs N1, 500.

Is this a turning point? MASSOB suspends seven administrators over Onitsha clash.

Following previous Monday’s clash between members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) and traders at the Old Motor Spare Parts, Mgbuka, in the commercial city of Onitsha, seven regional administrators of the movement have been suspended by its leadership over their alleged involvement in the fracas.
The leader of MASSOB, Ralph Uwazuruike, disclosed this on Thursday after an emergency meeting where he also inaugurated a peace and reconciliatory committee to meet with the market leaders over the crisis.
Uwazuruike further regretted the recent clash between his men and traders, adding that the seven suspended regional administrators were given marching orders over their suspected complicity in the market crisis.
He also apologised to the traders over the unfortunate attack on them by some overzealous MASSOB members, adding that the peace committee led by the National Director of Information, Uchenna Madu, and a Catholic Priest will soon meet with market leaders to find a way of settling the matter.
“After our meeting, we resolved that a panel of inquiry be set up to look into the activities of MASSOB in the commercial city of Onitsha and the constant clashes with traders and security agents, and anybody that is found wanting will be dealt with and expelled from the organisation. The aim is to bring sanity in the struggle; we remained the only genuine pressure group that is championing the true cause of Ndigbo and, therefore, cannot be the same to oppress them. I have ordered for immediate suspension of seven regional administrators in Onitsha because of their roles in the constant clash,” he said.
It was gathered that the affected regional administrators are Stephen Ahaneku in charge of Onitsha South, Emmanuel Omenka, Ogbaru, Vincent Ilo, Onitsha North, Donatus Nweke, Anambra West, Osondu Okwaraeke, Anambra East, and Innocent Kalu of Oyi regions.

Release bodies of our members, says MASSOB.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) yesterday demanded the bodies of three of its members allegedly killed by soldiers during the raid on its security office on the Onitsha-Owerri Road, Onitsha, Anambra State.

MASSOB leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, who addressed reporters, said the release became imperative, following worries by the deceased’s families and MASSOB that the bodies be released for a befitting funeral, to prevent their spirits from roaming.

MASSOB also demanded the release of those arrested before, during and after the raid, who included, Friday Igiri, Kenneth Nwabueze and Ezeigwe.

The group’s leader spoke through his personal assistant, Emmanuel Omenka.

His words: “We demand the release of the bodies for funeral. We are surprised that soldiers always involve themselves in MASSOB’s affairs. For four days, they raided our security office at Mgbuka junction and arrested three of our members. They should tell us our offence.”

He added: “They should stop disturbing our members.”

Nigeria’s existence no longer legal MASSOB •Says it’s an experiment of 100 years.

THE Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), on Wednesday, said Nigeria’s existence as an entity no longer legal, adding that it has expired.

According to its national director of information, Uchenna Mmadu, in a document issued to newsmen on Wednesday, the group said the expiration of Nigeria as an entity was based on the expiration of the amalgamation of Southern and Northern protectorate by the then British colonial masters in 1914.

Mmadu said the amalgamation by the British was to be experimented for 100 years, to know if it was going to work or not, adding that now, people of Southern and Northern Nigeria must come together to enter a new agreement under their own terms.

He said though the document was kept secret, it was generally known to the ruling class, scholars of political science and law, as well as the government of the United Kingdom.

“There has been consistent efforts by the Nigerian government to keep the knowledge out of the public, as it may lead to agitation for breaking the country into two.

“The awareness of the document and the closeness of 2014 has been causing panic among the Northern elite; this panic was behind the previous comment by the Senate President that Nigeria will not break up when the late president of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi, called for break-up of Nigeria.

“It was also behind the warning by NBA president in Benin this week that Nigeria may break up. Even President Goodluck Jonathan is nervous about this fact; remember that he kept on saying that Nigeria will not break up.

“Also, it was the real reason behind the Northern governors’ security meeting in Kaduna, according to our secret intelligent agencies.

“All these sudden talks about Nigeria breaking or not breaking up by the political leaders, including the president, show how anxious they are about the implications of the document and the closeness of 2014,” Mmadu said.

Mmadu recalled that the knowledge of the document was behind the prediction by American diplomats that Nigeria would break up before 2015, adding that the United States (US) army was also preparing on how to respond to the possible break-up of Nigeria.

He said Nigeria leaders were hypocrites, as no ethnic group believed in the existence of Nigeria.

“How can we continue to deceive ourselves that we love Nigeria while about 12 northern governors introduce Islamic religions law (Sharia) as their state constitutional law?

“Some state governors have introduced their coat of arms, flags, anthem and other ethnic identities. Some persons in Nigeria are more powerful than Nigerian constitution and the law.

“Corruption is being celebrated in high and low places of Nigeria and the judicial system is so weak that it has become a willing tool for witch hunting,” he said.

He maintained that the implication of the expiration of Nigeria’s amalgamation was a clarion call to all ethnic pressure groups to rise in defence of their people, culture, tradition and future, in order to be free from mental slavery.

Ralph Uwazuruike’s MASSOB clashes with Nigeria Police in Onitsha One killed, 11 injured.

The members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, on Friday clashed with the police in Anambra State, leaving one person dead, and eleven others in various degrees of injuries.
A source told DailyPost that trouble started when a police team on surveillance flagged down a motorist along the ever busy Onitsha/Owerri road in Onitsha, which drew the attention of MASSOB members that were controlling the traffic.
MASSOB members have been involved in voluntary traffic control since the yuletide.
As they intervened, there was a heated argument which resulted in assault between the MASSOB and police, prompting one of the policemen to shoot a MASSOB member and he died instantly.
Consequently, the MASSOB members in anger barricaded the ever-busy Onitsha-Owerri road for two hours and made bonfire with fairly used tyres forcing traffic to divert to the Obosi by-pass.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the dead member was said to have been taken to the Awada Police Station.
When contacted, the Onitsha Police Area Commander, Mr. Benjamin Wordu confirmed the incident but said that trouble started when MASSOB and a rival group had a bloody clash.
He said on hearing of the incident, he dispatched a team of policemen to the troubled area, adding that normalcy had since returned.

MASSOB urges police to release body of slain member.

Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has called on the police in Anambra State to release to them for burial, the corpse of one of their members, one Chimezie Anigbata, who they alleged was brutally killed by the police.

The group said it was a taboo in Igbo land for a man to die and not to be properly buried.

MASSOB equally called on the police in the state to free three of their members; Uchenna Ajogwu, Kelechi Nkwuda and Ifeanyi Agbom, who they alleged have been in detention since October this year.

The organisation’s Regional Administrator for Awka North, Anthony Nwodo, who made the call in Aba, Abia State, said Anigbata was killed by the police on

October 14 as they were holding a meeting in Onitsha, when the three members were also arrested.

Nwodo, who said he was in Aba to avoid being arrested by the police in Anambra State, claimed the police were after him and that it was unfortunate that the police could kill Anigbata after MASSOB members had arrested and handed over to them (the police), one Chinedu who impersonated a MASSOB official and was demolishing a building at Otigba 33, in Oyi Local Government.

Nwodo alleged that in an attempt to evade arrest by the MASSOB members, the police branded them kidnappers and charged them to court. He said the court discharged and acquitted them but that police re-arrested and re-branded them armed robbers and has since detained the three persons.

He appealed to President Goddluck Jonathan and the Inspector-General of Police, to as a matter of urgency, not only order the officer in charge of SARS in Anambra State to free the three MASSOB members held incommunicado since October 14, but also to release the corpse of Anigbata to them for burial.

Police raid MASSOB office in Ebonyi.

Police in Ebonyi State have raided the office of Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and carted away some items in the office.

It was gathered that mobile policemen in three Hilux vans stormed the regional office of MASSOB at No. 9, Hatchery Road in Abakaliki at about noon at the weekend. No arrest was made because there was nobody in the office at the time of the raid.

The Abakaliki Regional Administrator of MASSOB, Mr. Osita Obiajulu, told Daily Sun that policemen invaded their office when they were not in the office and allegedly made away with N170, 000 they kept in the table locker, and removed their signpost and flag. He said the mobile policemen came looking for mebers of the MOSSOB and when they realized that their targets were not around they broke into the office through the window.
“We are calling on President Goodluck Jonathan and inspector general of police to intervene in the matter and urge them to return our items they took from our office including money. We are a peaceful group, we have not attacked or harassed anybody since we started this movement. We have constitutional right to belong to any association, we don’t have gun, we don’t have knife but every time, police keep arresting, intimidating and molesting our members. Police want to push us to the wall, we are peaceful and we will remain peaceful but police should stop harassing MASSOB members,” he stated.
But in a swift reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a deputy superintendent (DSP), who confirmed the incident, denied collection of money from the office of MASSOB by the police as alleged by the MASSOB members.Igbo stated that members of MASSOB ran away when police came to arrest them for hoisting Biafran flag, an act of treason, which according to him, was a threat to the law abiding citizens of the state.
However, the Director of Information of MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu, condemned the attack on the office of MASSOB in Abakaliki, saying the activities, operations and existence for the past 14 years were purely on non-violence and does not amount to any threat to the society.

Onitsha shoot-out MASSOB accuses Army of killing member.

Following the alleged shoot-out yesterday between joint team of Army, Police and suspected kidnappers at 3-3 in the commercial city of Onitsha, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has faulted the claims by the security agencies that the suspects were kidnappers.

It alleged that its member was killed and later dubbed a kidnap suspect by security agents. The group’s regional administrator, Awka North, Chief Tony Nwodo, faulted the claims that there was a shoot-out between the joint team of army and police personnel and suspected kidnappers.

He said the security agents stormed MASSOB meeting venue, opened fire on their members and killed one while others sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries.

Nwodo disclosed that there was no case of kidnapping in the area as MASSOB members had on Friday arrested one Sunday, (sure name withheld) a native of Nkwelle, who was impersonating MASSOB members to commit crime including robbery and handed him over to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of 3-3, Mr. Ekene.

“What happened on Monday, October 14, 2013 was a cover-up because the army and the police knew the truth; they knew there was no case of kidnapping anywhere around the area. MASSOB members had on October 11 arrested one Sunday from Nkwelle, who was using MASSOB name to commit all sorts of crime including armed robbery and destroying people’s property.

We handed the suspect over to the DPO, 3-3, Mr. Nonso which is on record.”

“Then on Monday, October 14, MASSOB members also arrested one other suspect, Chinedu, for impersonating the movement, to use it to intimidate the residents of the area in the name of MASSOB and our members were on their way, to handing him over to the police at 3-3, when soldiers stormed the area and opened fire on our members and in the process, killed one of us, injured many and arrested over 10 members of MASSOB,” he said.

Nwodo disclosed that apart from the deceased whom they gave his name as Chimezie whom the security agents alleged was a kidnap suspect; over 10 members of MASSOB were undergoing torture in police cell while five other members are still missing without any trace to their whereabouts.

Police destroy MASSOB’s office in Anambra.

There was confusion in Omor, Anyamelu Local Government Area of Anambra State, yesterday.

The police in Anaku, the council headquarters, allegedly stormed the office of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and destroyed it.

This occurred two days after the inauguration of the office.

Briefing reporters, the MASSOB Director of Information in the area, Joseph Tagbo, alleged that the police invaded their office and destroyed it two days after its inauguration.

“They vandalised and carted away equipment and cash.”

He said he wondered what their offence was, which warranted the destruction, adding that MASSOB was a defenceless body fighting for a sovereign state of Biafra.

Tagbo decried the police for provoking a non-violent group.

MASSOB’s Onitsha Region Four Administrator Arinze Igbani and the Director of Transport, Chief Charles Oputa, described the police action as barbaric. They said it would not deter MASSOB from its struggle to actualise a Biafran nation.

According to Chief Oputa, now that MASSOB was working to ensure a hitch- free Christmas season, “the police have destroyed our office. It is unfortunate because we did not commit any offence.”

Efforts to speak to the police spokesman Emeka Chukwuemeka were not successful, but a source in the police confirmed the incident, saying MASSOB was not recognised by the government and should not have offices.

Peace pact MASSOB disowns Chief Uwazuruike.

Aggrieved members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) insisted at the weekend on pursuing the actualisation of an independent Biafra state as against the unity pact agreement signed by their leader, Ralph Uwazuruike.

The members, who distanced themselves from the plan to jettison the agitation for a united Nigeria, vowed to continue with the struggle, until “Biafrans are liberated from perceived oppression by the Nigerian government”.

The MASSOB leader had during a meeting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, with other separatists, including Dr Frederick Fasehun, Asari Dokubo, Hamza al-Mustapha, Mohammed Abacha and Yerima Shetimma, issued a communique in support of the unity and coexistence of Nigeria.

The group, under the umbrella of the National Unity Alliance (NUA), headed by Fasehun, founder of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), posited that it would no longer be manipulated by mischievous and power thirsty politicians to disintegrate Nigeria for selfish reasons.

But back home, the action of the MASSOB leader was seen as a betrayal of the cause for which many had been killed, maimed and displaced during the civil war fought more than 40 years ago.

It has also generated widespread criticisms among members of the group, who had sustained the Biafran struggle in the last 13 years.

One said: “We felt betrayed. We have wasted substantial years of our lives fighting for the independence of Biafra. Most of us have died in the process, while many others are languishing in prisons across the country.

“Apart from this steep price, we have equally paid through our nose to fund the movement. But we are not going to allow all these sacrifices to go in vain.

“For us the struggle for Biafra has just begun. Our collective destiny is greater than any person or group of persons.”
