Pastor Saeed Abedini’s Wife: Iranian Captors Torturing Him.

The wife of Saeed Abedini — the Iranian-American pastor imprisoned in Iran for allegedly trying to convert Islamic youths to Christianity — says her husband is being brutally tortured behind bars.

“He needs to be treated for internal injuries that occurred because of beatings in the prison and he has yet to be treated,” Naghmeh Abedini told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“He’s been taken to the hospital, and recently he was taken again, but not treated and chained and shackled and really dealt with harshly and being forced … back to the prison without being treated.”

Story continues below video.

It has been nearly two years since Abedini was thrown in an Iranian prison after his arrest and his wife believes the Obama administration has not put enough pressure on Iran to get him released.

“I do believe that if this was a priority, this religious freedom issue, that he would be home by now,” she said.

“[He is] suffering just because of his Christian faith, and a lot of countries have spoken out. I just came back from Geneva at the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy and so a lot of countries are saying this is not right.

“I believe if our government is serious about this, then we should be seeing results. I’m hoping … that our government will pursue every avenue to bring him home quickly and he doesn’t have to stay there another year or even another month.”

Abedini, a former Muslim who converted to Christianity in 2000, met and married his wife Naghmeh, an American citizen, two years later.

He is serving eight years in prison, accused of undermining Iranian national security with his Christian evangelical activities.

Naghmeh Abedini, whose American husband Saeed Abedini remains imprisoned in  Iran, spoke out Monday about the failure of the United States to work the Christian pastor’s release into the nuclear deal reached early Sunday, Fox News reported.

“It’s devastating,” Naghmeh Abedini said. “Iran has no incentive for them to release him. I don’t think we have any more leverage. We now have to consider other avenues and having other countries speak out because our country, when we could have used our leverage, chose to stay silent.”

With the holidays approaching, Naghmeh Abedini said her children were praying their 33-year-old father, who has been behind bars for more than a year because of his Christian religious practices, would be returned to the United States.

“It’s unbearable to think of another Christmas without him and see my kids not have him home for Christmas,” she said.

Despite the hope of the family, Saeed Abedini’s freedom was not a talking point when the Obama administration struck an agreement with Iran on its nuclear program.

According to the White Housethe release of Abedini — a U.S. citizen who was born in Iran and who was working in an Iranian government-approved orphanage when he was arrested — did not enter discussions that took place last week in in Geneva.

President Barack Obama raised the issue of Saeed Abedini’s release in September during earlier rounds of talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, but an agreement allowing the prisoner to come home was not reached, prompting the American Center for Law and Justice to reach out to Secretary of State John Kerry.

ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow accused both Obama and Kerry of turning their backs on a U.S. citizen; however, Caitlin Hayden, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, said Saeed Abedini’s case, as well as the cases of other American prisoners in Iran, have been part of diplomatic discussions.

American Pastor Saeed Abedini’s wife, Naghmeh, is speaking out about being severely disappointed in the U.S. government’s lack of reaction to Iran’s escalation of its human rights abuses against her husband, a U.S. citizen.

Iranian authorities have recently thrown Pastor Saeed into solitary confinement. It is the second time he has been held in solitary confinement in Evin Prison, the first occurring immediately following his arrest.  Based on his first time in solitary confinement, Pastor Saeed told family members that days felt like years.  His health continues to worsen,  with new reports he is now experiencing kidney problems in addition to internal bleeding that has gone untreated for months.

Naghmeh Abedini recently appeared on Fox News to discuss the latest developments in her husband’s fate.

“I can’t image one more day in that. From what I heard from him, solitary is horrific,” she explained. She continued, “It’s a small dark hole.”

While Iran has escalated their abuse, Naghmeh Abedini is concerned that the U.S. government is still not fully engaging.
