King: Malaysian Flight Possibly Downed in ‘Suicide Plot’.

There is a “growing consensus” that missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was crashed as part of a suicide plot by either its pilot or co-pilot, says Rep. Peter King, who chairs the House Counterterrorism and Intelligence Subcommittee.

U.S. authorities are coming to believe that one or the other of the pilots “wanted to get as far away and land in the farthest and deepest part of the ocean,” the New York Republican told the New York Post

The scheme, King said Sunday, could have been planned in the hopes that family members would be able to collect life insurance on the pilot or co-pilot, because if the plane isn’t found, “they can’t call it suicide.”

Malaysian police are denying reports that the family of the pilot, Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah, moved from their home just days before the flight took off. Two different photos of surfaced of him. One shows him wearing a shirt with the words “Democracy is Dead” printed on it, while the other shows him holding a cleaver and standing with a bowl of meat.

He is also being described as an “obsessive and fanatical” follower of Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, whom authorities sentenced to five years in prison for homosexuality in the hours before Flight 370 departed.

The suicide plot scenario “makes the most sense,” King said Sunday. Authorities believe the plane headed south toward the Indian Ocean, one of the deepest in the world, after it went off course over the Gulf of Thailand.

“If there is any consensus now, it’s that it was a suicide by the pilot or co-pilot, and he wanted to go as far as he could into the Indian Ocean,” King said, expressing doubt that both pilots were involved in the plan.

“One or the other would have to kill or somehow silence the other,” King said.

According to Malaysian Police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar, authorities are still investigating all possibilities, including hijacking or sabotage.

Last week, King told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV that the jet’s disappearance had the hallmarks of terrorism.

There’s “the fact that you have a two passengers flying on stolen passports, the fact that the plane just disappeared, that there was no communication whatsoever, the fact that Malaysia is known to be a hotbed of al-Qaida activity in the past.”

Mary Matalin: Nancy Pelosi, Democrats Running ‘Scared’.

Top Republican political strategist Mary Matalin says House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is doing a “Kabuki dance” by claiming Republicans are “wasting their time” using the Affordable Care Act as a campaign issue.

“It’s all a Kabuki dance. Obviously, they are scared and they’re trying to scrounge off a strategy and they’ve come up with, let’s see Obamacare on the offense and attack Republicans,” Matalin told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“Do you think anyone is listening to Nancy Pelosi?”

Story continues below video.

Pelosi took on the GOP after Republican newcomer David Jolly beat well-known Democrat Alex Sink in a special election for Florida’s 13th Congressional District on Tuesday. Many see the victory as a referendum on Obamacare.

“Sink — the kitchen sink had him, pun intended — [she] lost and that is not a Republican district,” Matalin said.

“I don’t see anything in the midterm elections that would portend anything but a positive outcome for Republicans.”

Matalin — who served under President Ronald Reagan, was campaign director for George H.W. Bush, and was an assistant to President George W. Bush — said she was impressed by this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference.

“I love when Republicans, conservatives, talk the talk. When they have open debates. When they fight, when they get into it. I love the Rand [Paul]-[Ted] Cruz different approaches,” Matalin said.

“You saw a very deep back-bench of intelligent, articulate candidates, would-be candidates or incumbents who can carry that message. I was in heaven …

“My personal opinion, the guy who’s going to end up in the top tier wasn’t there, which is [Wisconsin Gov.] Scott Walker.”

Matalin added that she doesn’t believe former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will ultimately be the Democrats’ choice for the 2016 presidential race.

Ros-Lehtinen: Venezuelan Regime Continuing ‘Assault on Democracy’.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, former chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, says she is concerned there is going to be more bloodshed in Venezuela after three people died in fresh protests.

“[President Nicolas] Maduro is taking advantage of this to continue his assault on democracy. In fact, today, the latest is this: he’s called the peaceful protesters a name that you know is going to justify him taking further criminal action, an armed terrorist insurgency. Now these are peaceful student activists. They’re not armed. I fear the worst is going to be happening in the coming days,” the Florida Republican told Newsmax TV’s John Bachman and J.D. Hayworth on “America’s Forum” Friday.

Story continues below video.

Ros-Lehtinen, who represents Florida’s 27th congressional district, became the first Cuban American and Latina in Congress when she was elected in 1989. She was also the first Republican woman elected to the House from Florida, and is currently the most senior Republican woman in the House.

She is highly critical of President Barack Obama’s policy on Venezuela, saying, “[Maduro] wants to take over Venezuela in the same way that the Castro brothers have, and that’s why this administration looking the other way is just not an answer. We have no foreign policy to speak of, no real policy direction, especially in Latin America.

“I’ve written a letter to the president and it was signed in a bipartisan manner, calling on the president to take action similar to the action that he’s taken against Russian human rights violators in the Ukraine, but knowing that the president will probably not take action on Venezuela. I have filed a bill that does the same thing. It would deny visas so that they can’t come to the United States, we’d be blocking property, we would freeze the assets, and prohibit all sorts of financial transactions to members of the Maduro regime who are responsible for the commission of serious human rights abuses against the citizens of Venezuela.”

Ros-Lehtinen continued, “The assembly of citizens in Venezuela is getting greatly curtailed. They’re limiting the access to print and broadcast media and what we’ve seen is that one of the things that we should do is reduce imports of Venezuelan oil. This would prevent Maduro regime from using the profits from the sale of petroleum to further oppress and further violate the human rights of the people of Venezuela. ”

She also had harsh words for the Organization of American States, calling it dysfunctional. “Even more so than the United Nations and we fund them — we fund 40 percent of this terrible body. They get 40 percent of their budget from you, the American taxpayer, and our bill says that our permanent representative to the OAS has got to use the voice, the vote, the influence, to defend what has long been the factor that has entered into U.S. and Latin American relations, which is the inter-American democratic charter,” she said.

“We’re doing all we can to help the folks who have been detained, the peaceful protestors, and just like the Cuban regime Maduro likes to blame the U.S. for his own failure. But the reality is that Maduro’s the one who has been responsible for the trampling of human rights. Do you know the economic situation, the food shortages, high inflation? This is a country that had all the natural resources and all the money and yet people don’t even have toilet paper. ”

Ros-Lehtinen said she is also concerned about organized crime from Latin America spilling over into the U.S. “What we have seen is that when the U.S. is looking the other way, when we’re looking at what’s happing in Ukraine, we’re looking at Syria, we’re looking at Iran—as well we should because those are problem areas for us— but what happens is that the drug traffickers and the cartels and the thugs, including terrorists, will make their way into the United States,” she warned.

Pastor Saeed Abedini’s Wife: Iranian Captors Torturing Him.

The wife of Saeed Abedini — the Iranian-American pastor imprisoned in Iran for allegedly trying to convert Islamic youths to Christianity — says her husband is being brutally tortured behind bars.

“He needs to be treated for internal injuries that occurred because of beatings in the prison and he has yet to be treated,” Naghmeh Abedini told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“He’s been taken to the hospital, and recently he was taken again, but not treated and chained and shackled and really dealt with harshly and being forced … back to the prison without being treated.”

Story continues below video.

It has been nearly two years since Abedini was thrown in an Iranian prison after his arrest and his wife believes the Obama administration has not put enough pressure on Iran to get him released.

“I do believe that if this was a priority, this religious freedom issue, that he would be home by now,” she said.

Urgent: Do You Approve Or Disapprove of President Obama’s Job Performance? Vote Now in Urgent Poll

“[He is] suffering just because of his Christian faith, and a lot of countries have spoken out. I just came back from Geneva at the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy and so a lot of countries are saying this is not right.

“I believe if our government is serious about this, then we should be seeing results. I’m hoping … that our government will pursue every avenue to bring him home quickly and he doesn’t have to stay there another year or even another month.”

Abedini, a former Muslim who converted to Christianity in 2000, met and married his wife Naghmeh, an American citizen, two years later.

He is serving eight years in prison, accused of undermining Iranian national security with his Christian evangelical activities.

Mike Huckabee: Libertarianism Is Not Republicanism.

There is a strong libertarian presence in the Republican Party, which was reflected at the Conservative Political Action Conference, but libertarianism is not conservatism, says former presidential candidate and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

“CPAC is becoming increasingly libertarian over the past few years, and we saw that this year,” Huckabee told Dick Morris, J.D. Hayworth and John Bachman on Newsmax TV’s America’s Forum on Monday.

“Libertarians have a very valid point of view, and increasingly we’re seeing a libertarian influence for the Republican Party. But pure libertarianism is not Republicanism,” he added. “They’re welcome in the Republican Party, but don’t act as if somehow libertarianism is a purer form of being Republican.”

Story continues below video.

The Arkansas Republican said, however, that he doesn’t put all the blame for Republican losses on Libertarian Party candidates taking votes from GOP candidates

“If 10 percent more of the social conservatives had voted in the 2012 election, Mitt Romney would be president today,” Huckabee said. “They stayed home, in larger numbers, in part because they didn’t feel like there was a message that really connected to them.”

Huckabee said that the solution for Republican candidates is not to stay away from social issues, because “by doing so, you almost ensure defeat.”

The former presidential candidate added that “a real conservative embodies the whole spectrum of conservatism, which is not only fiscal conservatism [but also] the idea that we need less government and the government we have ought to be more effective and more local.”

Rutgers Prof. Bell: Condi Rice Supported Torture in Iraq.

A Rutgers University history professor says he helped circulate a petition to ban former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice from giving this year’s commencement address because she allegedly promoted torture and lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

“We believe she was deeply co-involved in the authorization of what she [called] extended, expanded or enhanced interrogation but which we call torture and in violation of international human rights,” Dr. Rudolph “Rudy” Bell told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“We also think that she played a critical role in perpetrating the misinformation and outright lies concerning weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, which led to a war for no purpose.

“[It] resulted in the deaths of 100,000 Iraqis. So, we don’t think she’s an appropriate commencement speaker.”

Story continues below video.

On Friday, Rutgers University President Robert Barchi reaffirmed the selection of Rice as commencement speaker.

“On May 18, we will welcome former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to deliver the 2014 Rutgers University–New Brunswick commencement address,” Barchi wrote in a note to the university.

It was his first comment on Rice’s upcoming appearance since a faculty group called on Rutgers to pull the invitation.

Bell said his information is based on “a variety of sources” including New York Times reports and official documentation.

“Certainly, nobody doubts that there was water boarding,” he said.

Bell added that he is not against Rice visiting Rutgers on other days.

“She’s welcome to come to campus tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, any day she wants. Anything but commencement, I welcome her,” he said.

“We welcome academic freedom. She is welcome to give a talk and we should then in response ask her questions. That’s what academic freedom is about. Not being a commencement speaker.”

Iran Expert Timmerman: State Dept. Befriends Radical Islamists.

The State Department’s decision to allow an anti-gay Muslim cleric into the United States is an alarming sign that the government is befriending radical Islamist groups, says Kenneth Timmerman, executive director of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran.

“It has been the State Department’s policy under both Hillary Clinton and now John Kerry to support the Islamist groups in Syria,” Timmerman told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“The State Department policy has been systematically to aid and abet and sometimes to arm and equip these Islamist groups around the world, specifically in Libya and in Syria.”

It was Timmerman who first revealed that the State Department had issued Sheikh Mohammad Rateb al-Nabulsi a visa for a 17-city tour of U.S. mosques to raise money for the uprising in Syria.

In an interview three years ago, the cleric said, “Homosexuality involves a filthy place and does not generate offspring. Homosexuality leads to the destruction of the homosexual. That is why, brothers, homosexuality carries the death penalty.”

Timmerman said the U.S. embrace of radicals is dangerous.

“[The] mark on my forehead [is] because today is Ash Wednesday,” he said.

“If I were to appear in a Christian town in Syria today that had been taken over by these groups, the Islamist groups that Sheik al-Nabulsi is supporting, they would give me two choices . . . Get out of town really fast, convert, or die.”
