Poll: Most Believe Gov’t Corruption is Worse Under Obama.

Most Americans believe that government corruption has gotten worse under the Obama administration, according to a new national survey conducted by two conservative organizations.

The survey, conducted by the conservative Judicial Watch in partnership with Breitbart.com, shows 77 percent of the 1,000 adults questioned are concerned about government corruption and 52 percent of them think the problem has gotten worse over the past five years since President Barack Obama first took office.

The Judicial Watch-Breitbart poll shows that the American people are thoroughly disenchanted with a government they see as corrupt and secretive,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

“The support for the rule of law on immigration runs against the establishment narrative pretending there is overwhelming support for mass amnesty. On a host of issues – ranging from corruption to transparency, to election integrity, to Obamacare – President Obama is completely out of touch with the American people.”

The poll taken Dec. 15-16 also sought information on attitudes concerning other subjects, including voter fraud, immigration policy, and Obamacare.

When it comes to government corruption, Republicans tended to be more concerned, the survey revealed, with 88 percent being most concerned, followed by independents at 75 percent and Democrats at 68 percent.

Overall, the poll found that Americans think the government is doing a worse job at policing its own corruption, with 52 percent saying matters have gotten worse in the past five years. Only 18 percent of those surveyed thought the government is doing a better job at self-policing. The survey also found specifically that four out of five respondents do not believe that Obama has fulfilled his 2008 campaign pledge to have “the most open and transparent [government] in history.”

The respondents also expressed skepticism about several other Obama agenda items, including immigration and healthcare reform. Forty-nine percent said they believe immigration laws currently on the books should be enforced, and think illegal immigrants should return home rather than stay in the U.S. Of those polled, 71 percent favor enforcing current immigration laws, while 21 percent support changing the laws.

The survey also revealed that most respondents are more confident in their states’ ability to handle healthcare issues than they are the federal government’s. But nearly one-third of the respondents don’t have confidence in government at any level to coordinate healthcare.

As far Obamacare, two-thirds of those surveyed said they are satisfied with the insurance they have now.

Justice Scalia: ‘Devil at Work’ in US Society.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says Satan is at work in American society.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says Satan is at work in American society.

In an interview with New York Magazine, the longest-serving high court justice warned that even though the devil isn’t doing the same things from the Bible, he’s still very active.

“What he’s doing now is getting people not to believe in him or in God. He’s much more successful that way,” he said.

Scalia’s comments come as the U.S. Supreme Court opens for business, despite the government shutdown that’s closed other parts of Washington.

The justices returned to the bench Monday morning for their new term. They began with reviewing hundreds of cases to eliminate those on which they will not rule.

But there are a number of important cases the court will be taking, including the following:

  • Arguments against employers having to provide contraception coverage under the president’s health care law;
  • Cases regarding prayer at government events;
  • Cases regarding protests at abortion clinics.

Will this Supreme Court term help shape the future of American politics? Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, explains more on what to expect from this session on Monday’s CBN Newswatch.

Military Guide Lumps Christians, Jews with ‘Extremists’.

Have soldiers such as these been labeled as extremists by the U.S. Department of Defense? (Facebook)

The Department of Defense classified Catholics, evangelicals, Jews and Mormons as religious “extremists” in military training materials, according to the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty.

More than 1,500 pages of documents were just released to the chaplain group under the Freedom of Information Act.

“Many extremists will talk of individual liberties, states’ rights, and how to make the world a better place,” Newsmax quotes the study guide.

Trainees are warned that involvement with “extremist” organizations is “incompatible with military service and is, therefore, prohibited.”

The documents also show that the military considered the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “hate group” list as a “reliable source.”

“The U.S. military violated its appropriate apolitical stance and engaged in a dishonorable mischaracterization of multiple faith groups,” Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance, told Fox News.

Tom Fitton, president of the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, shared Crews’ sentiments.

“It’s disturbing insight into what’s happening inside Obama’s Pentagon,” Fitton said. “The Obama administration has a nasty habit of equating basic conservative values with terrorism.”

GSA Produced Movie Parody Videos, Skits.

A conservative watchdog group released a half dozen movie parody videos and comedy skits Tuesday by the General Services Administration that were removed from the agency’s website after an inspector general report last year revealed lavish agency spending on a Las Vegas conference.

Judicial Watch, which obtained the material through a Freedom of Information Act request, said it was tipped to the videos by a current GSA employee, Linda Shenwick. Shenwick, a self-described whistle-blower, said the videos were a waste of time and money.

In videos such as “The Leasefather” — a send-up of “The Godfather” — costumed GSA employees promote agency initiatives, talk about government practices and try to motivate workers. Two GSA employees parody a famous scene from the movie with an employee begging for mercy from another.

In a statement Tuesday, GSA spokesman Dan Cruz said the agency’s new administrator already had referred the videos to the GSA’s inspector general for further review.

“This is another example of past GSA practices and an already recognized pattern of misjudgment spanning many years and administrations,” Cruz said. “These videos were made and shown in 2011 in a regional office, prior to new leadership arriving at GSA. Under the new leadership at GSA, these types of events are not tolerated and must be submitted for review to senior leadership.”

Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, said the videos were “extravagant and embarrassing.”

This “is further evidence of a bloated federal government completely out of control,” he said. “Clearly the new administrator will have his work cut out for him if this pattern of preposterous waste is to be curtailed.”

The videos come as the GSA has sought to shed its reputation as a free-spending agency prone to government waste and just days after the Senate confirmed a new leader for the agency.

By a voice vote last week, the Senate confirmed Dan Tangerlini to take permanent charge of GSA. He had been the agency’s acting administrator since 2012 and had led an internal push to scale back spending and repair the agency’s reputation after a series of scandals. At his confirmation hearing, he told senators the agency had trimmed as much as $200 million in projected costs from its budget.

The cost of the parody videos — or their exact publication date — could not immediately be determined. They appeared to predate an inspector general’s report last year that detailed more than $820,000 in spending on a 2010 Las Vegas conference for about 300 GSA employees that included a mind-reader, bicycle giveaways and showy, after-hours receptions in resort suites.

That report was a blow to a federal agency that has more than 12,000 employees nationwide and serves as the government’s property manager. The GSA’s then-head, Martha Johnson, resigned along with other key officials and deputies who were immediately responsible for the conference.

In a parody of the movie “Rocky,” GSA employees are informed about a fitness initiative as people jog to the film’s famous soundtrack through the halls of the agency’s New York facility and into the streets of Manhattan. Another clip acts out a scene from the TV show and movie series “Mission: Impossible,” including an exploding tape recorder. In another clip, two employees in costume pretend to be Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Other videos include a GSA official making a rap song about the need for more revenues, a “Jeopardy” game and a video that splices shots of angry monkeys with a GSA employee who is trying to conduct a meeting.

First Official Benghazi Pictures Released to Judicial Watch.

The State Department has released the first photos showing the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attacks on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.

The disclosure came after the department was sued in February by the government watchdog, Judicial Watch, which had filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the information that went unanswered.

Judicial Watch said in a press release Friday that the seven photos it received June 6 seem to depict portions of the so-called “Special Mission Compound” in Benghazi, including what appears to be a burned and ransacked building, at least two burned vehicles, and Arabic graffiti with militant Islamist slogans.

“The fact that it took six months and a federal lawsuit to release these few photos tells you all you need to know about the Obama administration‘s Benghazi stonewall,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

“We know that every video or photo, along with every additional piece of information we uncover, will tell us more about Benghazi — in contrast to the continued lies and spin coming out of the Obama administration about this atrocity.”

The group initially called on the government to release any and all videos and photos of the Benghazi facility between September 10, 2012 and September 13, 2012 after it became aware the documents were reviewed by the independent Accountability Review Board appointed by the State Department to investigate the attack that left four Americans dead.

In a May 31 letter sent to Judicial Watch,  State Department official Sheryl Walter said the decision to release the photographs overturned a decision not to that had been announced just nine days earlier.

Court Rules Bin Laden Death Photos Can Stay Secret.

Image: Court Rules Bin Laden Death Photos Can Stay Secret

Pakistani media personnel and local residents gather outside the hideout of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad following his death in a U.S. Special Forces operation.

A federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday that the U.S. government had properly classified top secret more than 50 images of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden taken after his death, and that the government did not need to release them. The unanimous ruling by three judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected a request for the images by a conservative nonprofit watchdog group.

Judicial Watch sued for photographs and video from the May 2011 raid in which U.S. special forces killed bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, after more than a decade of searching.

The organization’s lawsuit relied on the Freedom of Information Act, a 1966 law that guarantees public access to some government documents.

In an unsigned opinion, the appeals court accepted an assertion from President Barack Obama’s administration that the images are so potent that releasing them could cause riots that would put Americans abroad at risk.

“It is undisputed that the government is withholding the images not to shield wrongdoing or avoid embarrassment, but rather to prevent the killing of Americans and violence against American interests,” the opinion said.

The court ruled that the risk of violence justifies the decision to classify the images top secret, and that the CIA may withhold the images under an exception to the Freedom of Information Act for documents that are classified.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement that the ruling “would allow terrorists to dictate our laws.” Fitton said his lawyers are considering what to do next. The group could ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case.

A spokeswoman for the Justice Department, which represents the Obama administration in court, had no immediate comment.

The images show a dead bin Laden at his compound in Pakistan, the transportation of his body to a U.S. ship and his burial at sea, the government has said.

Some of the photographs were taken so the CIA could conduct facial recognition analysis to confirm the body’s identity, according to court papers.

The case is Judicial Watch Inc v. U.S. Department of Defense and CIA, U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, No. 12-5137.
