USGS reports deep 7.1 Earthquake in Colombia.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombian authorities say there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage from an earthquake centered deep underground in the country’s southwest whose magnitude the U.S. Geological Survey placed at 7.1.

The USGS says the quake struck at 11:31 a.m. local time on Sunday 30 miles (48 kilometers) from the regional capital of Popayan. It says it was centered at a depth of 94 miles (150 kilometers).

National disaster director Carlos Ivan Marquez says there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The regional emergency director, Isabel Hernandez, also reports no damage.

Magnitude 6.0 quake hits off Mexico’s Pacific coast.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck off Mexico‘s Pacific coast on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but there were no reports of damage.

              The quake was centered about 18 miles southwest of Suchiate in the southern state of Chiapas, close to the border with Guatemala. It had a depth of 22 miles, the USGS said.

              Emergency services in Chiapas state were checking the area but a spokesman said there were no reports of damage.

              The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not immediately issue a tsunami warning.

Quake strikes western El Salvador.

LONDON (Reuters) – A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck western El Salvador‘s Ahuachapan department at 0630 GMT, the U.S. Geological Survey, monitored in London, reported.

              The quake’s epicenter was 48.8 miles underground, about 12 miles west southwest of the department capital, also named Ahuachapan, the USGS said.
